I know in assembly language, you can use offsets to access elements of an array, like.

a: .word 1 2 3 4 5

.text

la $t0 a

lv $s0, 12($t0)

now, $s0 = 3, or the 3rd element of the array. What I'd like to know is if the following is valid code or not.

.data

a: .word 1 2 3 4 5

.text

la $t0 a

li $t1 12

lv $s0, $t1($t0)

That is: can I use another register or variable as the offset? Thanks in advance.

My old cat (six years old) found my new cat (one year old) and they're both freaking out pretty bad. I know this is normal, but what should I do about it?

The old one (a boy) keeps trying to approach the new one, and she just hisses and runs away. He's an outdoor cat that has never been neutered. She's been spayed already.

He's also an outdoor cat, so he's beat up pretty bad a lot of the time so he might need to be put in ICU or something.

I'd really like for them to get along. I really love my old cat, he's probably my best friend.

I'm always afraid that his injuries might someday get the best of him though. I'd like to keep him inside all the time, but my mom doesn't want to since he's not housebroken. Would I be charged with animal cruelty for this? I'm afraid I would be if I went to the hospital with him like this.

What do I do? Please help. Is it possible to house-train him? Is it too late in his life to have him neutered?
