  • What does Hawthorne say about sin in general in the Scarlet Letter?

Could it be that the guilt caused by sin always remains with you?...like how Hester has to wear the A which constantly reminds her of her sin.

I'm sort of unsure. Can anyone help me out?

  • Which concert?

Which of these Minnesota Orchestra concerts looks better?

    1. Sounds of the Sea:

    Sibelius- Oceanrides

    Ravel- Piano Concerto in G

    Vaughan-Williams- A Sea Symphony

    2. Jie Chen Plays Saint-Saens:

    Saint-Saens- Piano Concerto No. 2

    Ravel- Alborada del Gracioso

    Debussy- Sacred and Profane Dances

    Messiaen- L'Ascension

These both look like amazing concerts. I would like to go to both, but it's expensive. I'm having trouble deciding which one would be best.

  • Oboe and alto sax embouchures?

I used to play mainly alto sax, and I was pretty good...I played in tune and with good tone. Then I started the oboe and got used to that little reed. Now I have been getting back to playing alto sax(to get ready for marching band next fall), and I play really(really!) sharp. Did playing the oboe mess up my saxophone embouchure or something?

If so, is the only way to fix it to practice my alto a lot more?

  • I drew the Miroirs?

I drew a picture for each one of Ravel's piano pieces in this suite. Here they are:

This is just kind of how I see them. I showed my family, but they don't know what the Miroirs are. Oh well.

  • If you were going to draw Alborada del Gracioso?

So, since I can't play Ravel's Miroirs very well, I've decided to draw them instead. I've already done Noctuelles, Oiseaux Tristes, and Une Barque sur l'ocean, but I'm not quite sure how Alborada would look. I know it's a "morning song of the jester". Any ideas?

  • What is in the future for us, generation X?

...in a world full of iPhones, rap, and greenhouse gasses? Do you think we are receding as we advance so much technologically? It's just a thought that I'm sure many others have too. I feel overwhelmed by all this ridiculously advanced technology. Some of it's great, but a lot of it is just completely unnecessary.

Do you think it would be good to kind of slow down on all the unnecessary advancements and competition(particularly the US and Japan or whatever)?

    I do.

Yeah, I am kind of rambling about nothing, but I am just sort of curious about what may lie in store for generation x.

  • What are some of your favorite endings or finales?

Which ones blow you away...or leave you hanging...or give you goosebumps?...or whatever? I would say that one of my favorite endings is the final movement of Ravel's Mother Goose Suite, the Fairy Garden, I believe it's called. It's so beautiful! And I also love the finale to Stravinsky's Firebird. It just comes out of nowhere, and is completely stunning.

There's two of my favorites...what about yours?

  • I don't know what to do with my life?

Well, I do but I just don't know what sort of career to choose. Here's the thing...I am almost 15 years old, and I am very good at drawing, and sculpting, etc....I mean really good. Sorry, I don't mean to sound conceited, but it's true. I draw all the time, mainly photographs of people(composers haha!). So obviously, I want to do something concerning art.

But there's another thing...I am passionate about music, classical music. I've played the alto sax for many years, and started the oboe later, which I picked up very fast. There's nothing I enjoy more than playing and listening to classical music. I even compose some of my own. So also, I would like to do something in music .

What on earth can I do that involves both? I know just being an "artist" doesn't earn you much money. Is there any sort of solid career that may suit me?

    Thank you!

  • Do you think Boléro is too often misinterpreted?

I mean there's techno Boléro, electronic Boléro, rock Boléro, and many other really messed up versions. Ravel always knew exactly how he wanted his music to sound. He even got mad at Toscanini for playing it too fast. What would he think of all this?

I personally, think that it should always be played in it's original, 16 minute long phase. It's the only way to get the full effect of the growing orchestration and sound. I think that's how Ravel would've wanted it.

  • When writing for the bass clarinet...?

Please correct me if I am wrong. I'm writing music, but I'm stuck. I'm good with almost all the other instruments. How do I write for the bass clarinet? Do I write it in the bass clef as if it is in C major, like on the piano, or do I write it in the bass clef in b flat( that's what kind of bass clarinet I'm writing for). If that is the case, how do I do it?

I'm confused!!!!!!!! Please help me. I'm making this harder that it is, aren't I?

    Thank you.
