  • Making bread on a campfire?

On Friday my family are off to Snowdonia for a camping trip. I am a fairly good cook and pride myself on being able to produce wonderful meals outdoors on a log fire. The only problem is that I can't think how to make a good batch of bread!

I have read some articles on the web but most of these require a fair amount of extra pans and such in order to get a large amount of heat above the bread as well as below.

Would the bread cook if I placed the dough balls (dough balls instead of a full loaf as these would cook quicker) in a thick tin foil parcel and placed them on a grate above hot embers? Surly this would trap heat inside the parcel to ensure that the bread got heat from above and below?

    Any advice would be wonderful!

    Many Thanks in advance :-)

  • Where can I find the full planning for Letters and Sounds?

    Hi All,

We used to have a full folder of all the all the letters and sounds planning sheets for every week, every phase. It was very simple to look at and explained everything clearly. The folder has gone missing - no one is admitting to taking it - and I have been scouring the internet all morning looking for something similar to give to a TA in the morning.

Does anyone have what I'm looking for that could kindly send me, or point me in the right direction to download for myself.

    Many Thanks :-)

  • Does anyone have a poem for a teaching assistant?

    Hiya

I need a poem that is about the wonders of a teaching assistant and all the great she does. Nothing too long, just a couple of verses really.

Thanks in advance, by the way have looked on the internet but with no joy really.

    Cheers

  • does anyone have a recipe for Blue String Pudding?

    Hiya Everyone.

My daughter is mad on the Clangers at the min and I want to surprise her with a traditional Clangers meal of Green soup (broccoli) and Blue string pudding (???) No idea on what to do about the second one. Some websites suggest using spaghetti and blue food colouring but I wanted to make this as a dessert to have after the soup.

I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance

  • Is there a legal temperature that my home should be?

    Hi everyone

I live in a ground floor apartment (Manchester, UK) and my house is cold. The heating has been on constantly for about 2 weeks now but is making no difference. My bedroom is large with only one radiator, my bed was 9 degrees the other night.

The problem is that i have drafts coming in from all the windows. These are getting sorted by my landlord but too slowly. I have a 7 yr old who is cold and has asthma as well. Both me and her father have had a cold for the past month that we can't get rid of.

Is there a legal temperature that a home has to be in all places to make is safe? I could do with something to show my landlord to make him take more notice.

    Thank you in advance

  • I need help with getting my daughter to stop biting her nails?

My daughter bites her nails, really really bad. Her fingers are a mess. They look red and sore.

I have tried painting her nails with the stop and grow polish that tastes horrible but that didn't work because whenever she washed her hands after going to the toilet the taste wasn't as bad.

I apply the polish before school but by breaktime it has worn off so she is biting them again!

If she goes to put her fingers in her mouth at home we move her hand away.

Any ideas on how to make sure she can't bite them full stop. I'm at my wits end with it.

She is 7 by the way and me and her dad do not bite ours, I myself have lovely long home grown nails. Painting hers with colourful polish doesn't work as 30 minutes later she has eaten it!!!!!

    Thanks

  • Would my family be disappointed if I got married at Grenta Green?

    Hiya everyone,

Me and my guy have been engaged for a couple of years now and we have a 7yr old daughter. He works full time and work part time so because of this money can sometimes be tight.

We have been putting off getting married because of this but to be honest we are sick of waiting, plus I still want daughter to be young enough to enjoy fully being a bridesmaid/flower girl.

Well today I've found a site offering some incredible packages for weddings at Gretna Green, very fancy with loads of things included for less than £2,000!!!! inc petrol up there!!! All I would need to buy is the dresses.

I love the idea of just going up one weekend and coming back married but would my family hate me for it. To be honest they are constantly falling out with each other and most of them do my head in.

I don't want to ask them what they think because i'd love to do it secretly and maybe have a meal out together at a later date even though I can guarantee half won't turn up.

    What would you do?

    Thanks

  • Anyone have a very simple pumpkin biscuit recipe?

Bought a medium sized pumpkin today for me and daughter to carve tomorrow. Wanted to bake some biscuits using the inside of the pumpkin. The web doesn't seem to offer an easy recipe (or anything close to being easy) By the way I am using self raising flour as i have loads of that so didn't buy plain flour.

would prefer measurements in cups but not bothered either way just wanted to do a little baking with my girl. Thanks in advance

  • Can I make Yorkshire Puds without eggs?

Hello, In the middle of making a full chicken dinner with all the trimming. Was about to get out my Yorkshire Pud ingredients when I discovered, horror of horrors, I forgot to buy eggs!!!!! Now I don't drive and the nearest shop to me is about 25 mins walk away so going out to buy some is not really an option. I don't own egg replacer either. Is there any way of making the puds without the egg?

    Thanks

  • Depression after M/C (also asked in womens health)?

It was my first day back at work after being told on 25th Aug my baby had no heartbeat at 8 weeks 5 days, I had to have a D&C the day after.

The people I work with knew I was pregnant as my 7 yr old told them, I was going to wait. Anyway I've cried 3 times at works today and they sent me home. Told me to take as long as I needed and that maybe I should phone the Dr's. Well I've phoned Dr's and got an app for tomorrow but I don't really want to go.

The reason for this is I honestly thought that I was ok. I haven't cried at home for ages and really thought I was getting back to 'normal'

I just feel that if I go to the Dr's I'm taking a step back. I've worked through my emotions at home with my partner I felt great but today really knocked me back. Work want me to take the rest of the week off but I know that I am fine at home it's just when I try and do something that i haven't done since the m/c. I'm worried that If I take the rest of this week off and feel fine, that when I go back on Monday I won't feel fine again just like today. I had three days off last week, work in a school and they started back on Wed but I went in today.

If the Dr says that I have depression I feel it's going to take me even longer to deal with the greif of the m/c

Hopefully the above has made some sense to people reading this and i welcome your thoughts and comments.

    Thanks

  • thoughts on sex after d&c?

Ok i'll try and keep this short and sweet.

Had a missed miscarriage confirmed 25th Aug

    Had d&c 26th Aug

Had light 'spotting' for a couple or days with plenty of cramps

No 'spotting' for a couple of days

Then got period style pains with a light bleed for a couple of days

    Now nothing again.

First of all do you think that was my periods sorting themselves out as the bleed was redder

Secondly I'm not sure when it is safe for me so resume sex with my partner, I wanted to tonight, i've missed being that close to him and tonight I felt ready but he didn't want to. I felt really let down to be honest.

    What do you think?

( By the way sorry if that was a case of TMI )

  • How do you tell people you've miscarried?

Told my family I was pregnant and told my 7 yr old. My 7 yr old goes to the same school that I work in to by dinner time the next day EVERYONE knew!!!

Went for a scan today only to be told that there was no heartbeat. Telling family is easy but co-workers?? Also some of the parents of the other children know, It's only a small primary school do it doesn't take long for gossip to spread. How should I tell people.

  • which is better in the long run for your breasts?

    Hiya

I know that there is a lot of evidence that says that breast feeding is better for the baby, but what i want to know is which is better for your breasts?

I lot of people that i know have breast fed their children but in the end have been left with droopy breasts that they are not happy with. If you don't breast feed would you keep the shape and size of your breast that develop during pregnancy?

    Thanks for reading
