  • Should I rent a car in Advance in Long Beach?

    Hello guys,

    I will be traveling to Long Beach from the UK and I am under 25 years old (I am 23). I am wondering if its better a rental car to drive in advance or shall I do it as I arrive at the airport? Is there a big difference in terms of price? I am planning to drive around LA for a week, so I am trying to get the least expensive option.

  • Android API that can tell me if my phone is calling someone?

    Hey guys,

    I am trying to find a class from the android API that can tell me if I am making a call?

    (I want to record the number of minutes I am calling people for and then add them)

    The only API that seems to be close is the "TelephonyManager"

    The constant called "CALL_STATE_RINGING" is pretty close, but that's for incoming calls, while I want to check the outgoing calls.

  • How did he get this amplifier gain?

    Hey guys, I cant see how my lecturer got the amplifier gain (equation in red) from the two equations given above?

    Please show step by step when re-arranging!

  • Check if your connected to a website C#?

    Hello guys,

    I am trying to create a program that checks whether I have connected to google, facebook or whatever website.

    I cant find any sort of class that does this for me other than the HttpWebResponse and HttpWebRequest classes that just check 's if the server is online (I want to check if the user is actually going to the website using a browser..)

    Any ideas?

    Hello guys, anyone able to give me a hint on this question:

    Use vector analysis to show that the velocity remains

    constant for a charged particle moving with velocity v parallel

    to a magnetic field B.

    If its travelling parallel to the magnetic field would it be:

    F = Q(vxB) = |Q||v|Bsin(0) = 0

    Thus force on charge is 0 and velocity is constant?

  • Initial Conditions of RLC Circuit?

    Hello guys,

    Can you please tell me how I know the initial conditions of this circuit (attached to this thread:

    It says the switch is left open for a "long" time and then at t=0 its closed. I want to find the current through the 3ohm resistor for t<0.

    What I know up to now is that:

    the current through the 3ohm resistor should be given by

    i(t) = Ae-t + Be-2t <--- check that this is correct...

    but I need two initial conditions to find A and B and thus know how the current changes.

  • RC Circuit Equations?

    Hello guys,

    I am studying for my circuit theory exam and we are required to derive the RL equations and RC equations for both charging and discharging currents/voltages.

    I was able to derive all the equations for the RL cicuit, though im struggling a little with the RC one.

    I got this far:

    V1 = Vo exp(-t/RC)

    I don't quite get how to find the steady state equation. I know that In Steady state equation?

  • JK Flip Flop? Help!-Confused...?

    Hello Guys,

    I am trying to figure out exactly how a simple JK flip Flop works in Logic, but im pretty confused at this point.

    Here is the circuit:

    I get that it latches when J = X, J = X, CLK = 0, and when J = 0, K = 0, CLK = 1

    But I dont get the rest of the truth table...

    Its got 3 inputs so when J = 0, K = 1, CLK = 1 then I get that the output of the first NAND gate will be 1 (since any 0 will give a 1) But then the second NAND gate will have two inputs at 1 while the third input is undefined since its coming from the Q output?!

    So it could either be a 1 or 0?

    Anyway, hope you guys see my problems and can help out!

    I was just wondering if anyone can explain to me what the truth table in a simple NAND gate bistable?

    I understand the inputs are S, R inverted as it latches when they go to 0.

    I also understand that when S(inverted) and R (inverted) are both 0 then that's an invalid outputs (it cant be set and reset at the same time...)

    but I don't understand what the Qn+1 is all about (in the truth table)

    And I definitely don't know why Qn and Qn(inverted) is for the latched part...

    I know im pretty confusing, but my basic problem is understanding what the Qn+1 bit means..

  • Very Simple Binary number Question!?

    Why is the number of combinations raised to the power of the number of inputs to geta full set of outputs?

    To make it clear...

    A two input gate has 4 possible combinations:

    00

    01

    10

    11

    And (for some reason) we do 2^4 to get the full set of outputs (16)

    My questions is as follows:

    How EXACTLY do we know that we have to take 2 to the power of 4 and why?

    (I know its true, just don't know intuitively...)

  • Simple Binary number problem!?

    Hello guys,

    I understand binary numbers pretty well now, though I don't quite understand why the power of 2 will give us the maximum possible binary number (-1)?

    I know that if I do 2^4 = 16

    which means that:

    1111(in binary) will give us 15.

    I know 2 to the power of n will give us all the possible outcomes (like 00,01,10,11) but how do we know that 2 to the power of a number will give us all possible outcomes?

    (I know it works by looking at it, just don't know why, it just seems to happen that way).

    I know my question is a bit confusing, but I hope you can see where I am confused..
