  • Where is the arrival area for KLM at Toronto Pearson?

I've wasted a good hour trying to find a simple piece of information that should be obviously placed on the airport site or KLM's site. KLM says they tell you on their site which terminal planes land at, and when I input the flight number it did not give me the promised information!!!!

Do I assume the KLM arrivals area is near the KLM departure area only on a different floor? I need to pick someone up tomorrow.

The GTAA site didn't spell this out for me either.

  • Why Are Ants Committing Mass Suicide in my Pool?

These medium size red ants have been scurrying around my pool deck for the last 4 days and then taking big leaps into the pool, where of course, they drown. Just cleaned out about 1000 ants that had floated to the bottom over night. Why are they doing this?

  • Wet Septic bed area can't be mowed?

This is our first experience owning a septic system. One area of the grass is very wet combined with all the rain recently but I think due to septic bed. The septic is fine as it was pumped last year so that isn't an issue (ie. not overfull) My daughter was mowing the very long grass (after several days of rain) and the tractor mower got stuck in the mud. This is the 2nd time. Now it is a sludgy looking area with tractor marks. I am wondering about converting that wettest part into a natural area or doing something else because how can we mow it if it is so wet? I used a push mower today in as close as possible but there is a lot of mud there. Or should I add topsoil to raise it up a bit. It is obviously a low spot.

  • When Was Kate's Veil Lifted and by Who?

  • Deck Refinishing Advice?

This deck is 15 years old done in a thick brown opaque stain. Large deck, lots of railings and fascia.

Ideally I'd like to change it to grey and white or light grey and dark grey as the front veranda is those colours and the siding is all grey. To me the brown sticks out like an ugly sore thumb.

BUT we don't want to spent over $1000 because we will eventually tear it down since the foundations aren't that great. So for this year I want to know if I can just paint over the brown with some type of grey stain or paint?

I've stripped half the horizontal boards as they were peeling. The vertical rails & fascia are not peeling and I don't want to sand them.

  • MS word troubleshooting - File - Open - Details?

When I ask for my files to be displayed in details it will show the files but not the date or other details. I've tried various things to adjust this includig the repair feature but can't find an answer.

How can I get the details to show dates. I'm a freelancer and need to find articles I've written by date.

  • Area Carpeting Question?

Is there any rule of thumb for whether or not to put an area carpet in the dining room if it is a hardwood floor?

Ours is cherry hardwood, our round table has a glass top so it seems kind of hollow in there. My husband says no because of food being in there, I'm thinking yes because of ambiance.

  • Drapery Colour Ideas for Dining room and Living room/Office?

New home in the country - large diningroom and using the livingroom as an office/sitting room. Need the right drapery for both. Most of the house is done in dark taupe with white trim.

I have a white electric fireplace in my office which we brought from the last home (no it can't be painted nor do I want to). The office & dining room will be the only rooms in the house looking feminine. I love shabby chic & French country, but because the pets are everywhere I am instead of going for white duck covers for the loveseat & wing chair I covered in prairie blue. I want to use existing and new artwork. The diningroom furniture is glass table with espresso legs and buffet which I know is neither shabby or French. I am thinking of trading 2 or all the 4 chairs for faric to floor parson's chairs.

There are vast windows in each room with gorgeous views of the garden I want to frame.

I want to tie in existing expensive artwork. The colours in the art are mostly blues, greens and pink (ie. pink peony and anopther has a blush pink mat) and are pictures of old stone buildings with gardens and window boxes full of pink petunias.

    Flooring is walnut coloured hardwood.

The rooms are both large and the diningroom if fairly sparse so I think full curtains may warm it up.

So, does this give you enough info for suggestions?

  • Adding lighting to finished ceiling?

The home we are buying has lovely patterned finished drywalled ceilings and crown molding. Problem is they didn't put in overhead lighting. I'd like pot lights or something.

Is there a way to add lighting to a room with already finished ceilings without redoing the ceiling?

Also how do you add wall sconces once the walls are in?

  • should I be worried about earwigs?

I'm moving back to Southern Ontario and we bought a house on the edge of town so sort of rural. It has a pool, hot tub and siding and I'm remembering the earwigs I was glad to get away from and that I see at my sister's country home - once in her tea kettle and I'm paranoid.

Should I get some type of fumegating outside when we get the house or wait to see if they are a problem? There is a crawl space under the deck that I think might be a problem. Yuck I hate earwigs.

  • Should I repair or discard this Canon camera?

So sad. Please tell me if I should repair or discard and buy a new one.

I feel totally ripped of. I purchased a Christmas gift for myself POWER SHOT SX120 IS I got for for $230+ on sale. I took only about 50 pictures and only had it 2 months and was uploading when I went to get up from my chair and tripped on the chord. The camera smashed into a desk breaking the power viewer.

I sent it to Canon to get fixed as it said it was under warranty and the courier was $23. Now the quote to fix it is $155 but is subject to change if more is needed.

I can either say yes fix it or throw it out. One way I've lost $253 if I throw it out, but if I fix it this camera will now have cost me $408 (and more if it needs more repair).

I wish I'd checked with a local store instead of bothering to ship it only to find out I can almost buy a new one for the same price.

    I'm bummed can you tell?

  • Painting for resale.?

Great room open concept. Need to compete with show homes. Trim, fireplace mantel, window frames and kitchen cabinets are medium oak. (no I won't be painting any of the trim-too much). Blinds are wood, same color. Flooring is beige-pinkish-brown-greyish taupe with cream specks. Counter similar - pinkish taupe.

Looking for main color & suggestions for feature wall, wall behind fireplace and island which is a painted surface.

  • Does everyone remove baseboards when recarpeting?

Is it standard that all baseboards are removed prior to re-carpeting? And do most carpet installers reinstall the used stuff?

  • Can I remove baseboards myself without damage?

I was told by Home Depot their carpet installers aren't very delicate in removing baseboard and charge extra and I might want to do that myself. I'm having the rooms painted before the carpet so it would make sense I remove them before the painter. They are natural varnished oak. I'm wondering how hard a job this is and how well I may do without damaging them.

  • Best time to sell home in Winnipeg?

Hoping for July closing. What is best time to list home, March, April or May? While our March break is the end of March I'm leaning toward April because last March near month's end we still had a snow storm.

  • Dog behaviour question?

At the dog park my dog went hunting in the forest. I heard incessant barking & thinking she was in trouble I went in to find her. She was hovering over an animal - not sure what - perhaps raccoon. When the animal moved the dog dodged and I lost her again. But I called her for 30 min. to no avail. Finally I went to the car as it was dark & scarry. I circled around the neighbourhood a few times & returned to the parking lot several times calling. After 1 hr. I heard incessant barking like she was in trouble and calling for help. I risked driving through the field to where the barking was coming from. Again she wouldn't come out of the thicket. I went into the thicket in the dark with only my headlights shining in. I found her but she wouldn't come so I grabbed her by the collar and dragged her out. I'm confused at what happened. This was traumatic for me. Was she standing over prey for me, or was she paralyzed with fear or something else?

  • Realtor, what is best these days regarding appliances?

Our home is 1800 sq. ft. in a nice area on a park, 7 yrs old and a popular style. Our appliances are regular white, kitchen ones are 12 yrs old, laundry 4 yrs old. Should we include them in the sale, offer to sell them sep, or plan to take them. We haven't picked out our next house yet.

  • how much would it cost to put hardwood in 1500 sq ft?

I know I can get a quote locally but someone here probably has a rough idea.

How does that compare to carpeting.

I don't want it here for us. We will be selling our home soon and hardwood is very popular in the model homes here we are competing with. Should we bother? We will be re carpeting if we don't hardwood as our carpet is worn.

  • Restoring vinyl bathtub?

Our tubs are only 7 yrs old but they have a soapy buildup and I want to renew them so they look new when we sell our home. They are those sort of vinyl types. I have cleaned them with Vim fairly regularly and use Tilex shower spray, and once tried CLR but they still look dull. Any suggestions?

  • Realtors, others: does having a "professionally" finished basement make the house price higher?

Some people say you don't get your money back on a finished basement. We had ours done professionally to match the upstairs - rounded corners, sound proof insulation, pot lights, granite bath counter, sub floor...

This has given us about 800 sq. ft more of living space. It includes a legal bedroom, large open recroom/media area, exercise area facing the big screen tv, office cubbie also facing tv. and an unfinished tool room, storage and laundry room.

I want my home priced fairly and similar ones in the neighbourhood don't have finished basements..
