Will my speakers and receiver be OK? Question for Audio Hobbyist...?
Hello All,
I've decided it's time for a transition into enjoying vinyl records. I picked up a turntable, and I also came across a Technics SA-103 stereo receiver. It is a 120W receiver, and delivers only 20 watts per channel (@6 ohms). I have some floor speakers that are 8 ohms (old Pioneer 3-ways) and rated at 100W. I know under-delivering power to my speakers can ruin them by clipping (no huge deal, they are probably from the same era as the receiver, but would prefer not to kill them). I tried out the receiver with some other similar speakers and it sounded fine. As long as I play the music below the level of distortion and clipping, will my speakers and amplifier be fine? Any other warnings for preserving the amplifier and speakers? Thanks!

I have an amp that is rated at 515w (103x5 (FL,FR,C,SL,SR)). I only have 2 speakers, FL and FR, rated at 150w max each. Is it possible that I could deliver too much power to these speakers? Thanks for the input!
8 AnswersHome Theater8 years agoCareers for Scientists? Any experience?
Hello,
I'm in the middle of my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, and it's time for me to start thinking about a career. What is something that I could do everyday, and be happy with. Yes, I know it depends on my passion, but my passion is just a general science passion. I love science. I can tell from 2 years of lab research, if I did it for a living I would be miserable. What jobs are popular for core scientists? Thanks for any useful insight/shared experiences!
1 AnswerOther - Science9 years ago1982 Peugeot Bicycle with only rear brake?
Hello,
I just bought a 1982 Peugeot road bike, that was modified into a single speed. It only has a rear brake. Is this normal? Is this safe? I know fixed gear bicycles sometimes have no brakes, or just a front brake like some road bikes. I won't be in any insane races or anything like that, mostly just a bike for navigating the city/campus. Thanks!
4 AnswersCycling9 years agoWhat are Atheists views on abortion?
I identify as an Atheist, and I am a Biochemistry student, and I'm not sure life can be defined. I'm not sure ethics can have an exact truth value, and this topic seems relativistic. What are the views of other scientists (or well read/knowledgeable Atheists)? Thanks in advance!
20 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoI would like input from a religious standpoint please!?
Well, more of an argument. Please be respectful. Non-believers need not comment, but still welcome to contribute respectfully. So here is some background: I identify as a non-believer, atheist if you will have it, and both of my parents identify as Christians. They asked me to join them for a Sunday service to which I agreed, only to find the service mostly centered on a single thing...a new church. They had secured this funding through collection from church members, as well as special contributions from the wealthier of the members. The pastor said it was "god's will" that they build this new church, and it is going to cost $3 million. I openly argued that a $3 million church is no more "god's will" than people across the globe dying from malnutrition was "god's will," and they just dismissed my statement and dropped the conversation, although I did not want it to end. I am requesting an extension of this topic to all of those interested, and I look forward to the responses. Thanks so much!
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoAnti-Trust act and Capitalism?
I am confused. I have been researching capitalism, which seems to be a purely free market system. But in order to sustain capitalism, government regulation has put in place laws, like the anti-trust act to prevent monopolies and allow competition. This is governmental regulation, which seems like a blend of capitalism and something else. What is this something else? What other system is infused to make capitalism a sustainable mechanism? What system uses governmental regulation for the economic system? Is this a blend of capitalism with just a little communism or socialism? Thanks so much! This is tough to organize everything in my head!
6 AnswersPolitics9 years agoWhat is Socialism, and what system involves governmental regulation of industry?
I am confused about the definition. I thought it dealt with governmental regulation, but I was corrected. What is socialism, and what governmental mechanism/system deals in governmental regulation of industry? I would like an objective definition/answer please. Thanks so much!!
11 AnswersPolitics9 years agoIs the anti-trust act a socialist idea?
To my understanding government intervention and regulation of enterprise is, at least in part, the definition of socialism. If the government is preventing a monopoly of industry, isn't that by definition a socialist idea? I understand that it was necessary to maintain free industry and competition for the preservation of capitalism, but is this in fact a sound argument to make? Thanks!

3 AnswersMathematics9 years agoChemistry Help Needed!! How do pi bonds and steric interactions differ?
I think of pi bonding as an overlap of 2 perpendicular orbitals, and this creates a bond which is favored. When I think of steric interactions, I think of electron clouds repelling each other, and pushing each other away because of the electrons. How can electrons come together to form a bond, but at the same time push each other away? I am very confused! I really appreciate the help!!!
1 AnswerChemistry9 years agoChemistry Help please!! molecular formula order?
I've been in chemistry for a semester, and I am currently solving this problem. The empirical formula answer is H4...C5...O2. I believe the answer is C5H4O2, but why is it not H4C5O2, seeing as the hydrogen is more positive (less electronegative) than C and O. Thanks for the help!!!

1 AnswerChemistry1 decade agoDNA Polymerase (I) and Primer Question !!!?
So I understand that once an okazaki fragment has been formed, DNA polymerase (I) removes the RNA primer, and replaces it with DNA nucleotides in the 5' to 3' direction. But on a linear chromosome, (in the telomere region) the end is left rough, because the primer has been removed, and the DNA polymerase (I) cannot turn the RNA primer into DNA. Can the DNA polymerase (I) not attach because it is at the end of the DNA strand, and it actually needs to attach BEFORE the RNA primer in order to remore it and replace it with RNA nucleotides?! HELP!! THANKS!!!
