Should I do this project? Would this be a good idea/ project.

I really need your help, I bought a 500GB hard drive, and when I plug it into my Mac it works and comes up as time machine backups but when I plug it into my acer laptop (normal windows laptop) it doesn't show/ appear in "my computer"
