Going to apply for investment banking jobs. Please evaluate my chances.?
I will be cold-calling lower bulge-bracket and boutique investment firms in NY, Boston, San Francisco and Seattle starting at the end of August, hoping to secure a few interviews to be had in the Winter. here is my profile:
Senior at non-target private university, B.S. Economics, minor in mathematics
3.4 cumulative GPA, 3.6 in major. No banking job experience (only recently became interested).
I know that my transcript won't shine in comparison to my competition from places like Harvard and Princeton - that's why I'm sticking to a plan of aggressive networking.
My plan is to contact at least 1 bank every week this semester of school and, if they make a favorable reply, make a note of it and call them back within 2 weeks. I even made a chart with all the firm's names and a ranking system of their response to my inquiries.
Any thoughts or criticisms will be appreciated. If anyone reading this has experience applying to ibanking jobs out of school, then stories will be very helpful to me.
Thanks.
2 AnswersFinancial Services1 decade agoShould I Major in Economics + minor in Math, or should I double major in Economics and Math?
I am a junior at a top-50 university close to finishing my Economics major, and nearly done with a minor in mathematics. If I complete an econ major with minor in Math as planned, I will graduate in 4 years. If I complete a double major in econ and math, I will need to stay an additional 2 semesters (one of these semesters being in the Summer).
I'm aspiring to either: PhD in Economics
Well-paying starting job in private financial sector
Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
