I am a never married fifties-something. I think I know a thing or two about relationships. I find I can answer questions in many categories and get chosen as having best answer. Many of my answers have been to young people regarding life skills, like - how do I plan this trip -- how old do I have to be to do (something). These are things that an adult with experience in life would know but youth may not have come across before. How to talk to your parents is one. How to deal with a boyfriend or girlfriend situation. I also know a little about computers - and if not, then I can usually find the answers on the internet. I really try not to ever answer a question that I think I might not really know a good answer to. I am well acquainted with Windows software or hardware issues, but I know nothing about Macs. I know a little about food, alternative medicine choices, and health choices. I think I know a little about sticky situations with one's employer. It's about wording t

  • Math Question... Percentages?

I'm a menopausal woman, so no, I am not doing homework. I am just curious about something and I wonder how to figure it out.

There's a new alcoholic beverage called Mike's Harder Lemonade.

The label says it has 8% alcohol by volume, and it comes in an 8 ounce can.

I'm curious to know how much alcohol is in that can (if compared with vodka, which is 40%).

    I tried multiplying 8 * .08 and the answer is .64.

Does that mean that 64 per cent of the can's contents is alcohol?

Or does it mean that .64 ounce of alcohol is in the can?

I'm thinking that if one wanted to double the alcohol content

in the beverage, one could put vodka in it. But if vodka is

40% then this opens a whole other can of worms.

I am trying to figure out what mathematical equations

I would need to make such calculations. Hopefully a

math whiz out there in Yahoo land would know!

    Thanks!

  • Can professionals in psychology help a person too sensitive to music?

I was a very sad and lonely child, and in later years in school I found comfort in music. I worked very hard to improve my skills and got into the top choir. In college I was intending to become a music teacher.

However, during my senior year in high school, I was in a traumatic car accident while I was practicing for a solo while driving. After that I lost my courage. In college, the professors in music were not careful in how they presented their negative comments.

I dropped music and took psychology just to finish a degree. Once out in the real world, I could never hold a job. I ended up being given a number of diagnoses of seriously debilitating mental illnesses. I have been living on Social Security Disability, $800 a month.

Whenever I hear live music (even a concert on TV) (not recorded in a studio setting), I just cry and writhe around. There is a lot of pain. I feel I have wasted my life! I wanted to HELP young people... and yet I just keep failing at whatever I try. I'm in my fifties, female. Is there anyone in the world who could help me to deal with all this pain?

  • Is there a spider that has the same abdomen as a Brown Recluse?

I'm visiting family in an area north of Seattle, WA. I lived here over 20 years ago, and during that 10-year period, some folks said there may be Brown Recluse here.

Looking at maps, it seems they would not be here. But I keep finding spiders that are a close match. At the very least, they have the same abdomen and they are in the right size range. I would need to examine one with a magnifying glass to more certainly identify them. I have not yet managed to catch one to take to the county extension office

I've researched this a lot on the internet but I haven't found a good answer. Any bona-fide Entymologists out there?

    Thanks.

  • Is Tool Box for aligning HP deskjet 5440 really not something I can use on my Windows 8.1 laptop?

OMG I tell ya! I've been online for hours trying to find out how to "align" the printer at my aunt's house.

As I understand it, if you install a new ink cartridge on this model you have to "align" it. I can find info on this in several places, and some say to use the HP Tool Box. I even found a place to download the Tool Box for Windows 8.1 and I did download it.

I can't seem to find any information about how to find the Tool Box on my pc. And then, I can't find info on how to use it, except for previous Windows operating systems.

They all seem to say I need to access "printer properties," and yet this does not seem to be possible in Window 8.1.

In other words, I'm going around and around in circles and not getting any results. Even when I look in Program Files (x86) (a new directory in my C:\ directory) it still doesn't have anything like a Tool Box.

When I do a search on the pc it doesn't find this either.

I'm clueless. Please help if you can. Don't try to help if you really are just guessing. Thanks!

  • Can you compare my 7-month-old kitten to a human child?'?

I just want to get an idea about how well he can learn stuff like:

"No, you can't eat your favorite food every time you eat. For the most part, you have to get used to dry food."

And, when he plays fetch and actually brings back the toy to me, can I train him to actually put it in the toy basket?

And, no, kitty doesn't bite people hard and kitty does not play with hands.

    Stuff like that.

Yes my vet may be able to help me but right now I don't have the $48 bucks per visit that he charges for a visit.

    Thanks!

  • What's the vet word for when a cat preens itself?

I just adopted a wonderful kitty - 6 month old neutered brown tabby with golden yellow eyes. Lovely cat. He preens himself a lot, and I know that means he'll maybe have hair balls and need a laxative for that. When I was a child our cat did that too, and the vet had a nifty word for it. I'm thinking maybe the word was "fastidious." Does anyone know that technical word? I'm just curious about everything and I want to know!

  • what is luke warm water temp by thermometer?

I'm wanting to give my cat a bath. Online I find comments like, "use warm water" and "use luke warm water" and "use the temp you would bathe in yourself" and "room temperature" and "a little warmer than room temperature".

Like, What? I mean... can't anyone tell me the thermometer temperature?

By the way, one comment was, "100 degrees celsius" which is boiling. Funny, right? I don't think so.

  • tax return documents, what order do I stack them in?

In four hours from now, I start work at a Tax Preparation business as an assistant. I know that I'll be pulling tax forms off the printer and they need to be given to the preparer in a certain order. I am wondering if anyone can suggest what that might be. Thanks.

It may be different from office to office, but a general idea might help me get a head start.

    Double Thanks!

  • Could you help me with the windows 8 Command Prompt?

I was trying to backup My Documents onto an 8 Gig thumb drive. I ran into a bunch of problems with a message about write protected disk. I think that what happened was that I pulled the thumb drive out without getting permission from the pc to remove it.

So I went online and found a couple articles about this. One of them gave instructions about how to remove the write protection using command prompt.

When I tried to use the command prompt I couldn't find it. So I did a search for it and I found it in System 32.

So I got into that, and then as I typed in the commands, it gave me error messages about the commands not being recognized or similar language.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the computer is asking me to upgrade something before I can use it, like command pro or similar. I guess they want me to buy software.

BOTTOM LINE: How do I take the write protection off the thumb drive, and the files on the pc, which seem to have been toggled to write protection when I removed the drive at the wrong time? Obviously Windows 8 or 8.1 is totally different than Windows 7 for these particular issues.

  • Doctors, esp. ENT, what about my ear symptoms?

This has been going on for at least a month, maybe 6 weeks. My ear now feels like it is full. I can't hear well out of it at all. And when I plug the other ear, this ear rings. Mainly I hope that this will eventually go away. I've seen doctors about it twice. Following is what I've done so far.

At first I thought it felt like it needed to be "popped" like when you head upwards in altitude. So I closed the nostrils and gently pushed air. A few days later I went to a walk-in clinic. I thought maybe there was wax build up in there.

The doctor there said something about the ear drum being blown in one direction or another. I don't remember if it was outwards or inwards. She said she saw fluid in my ear drums, I think. But she didn't give me any antibiotics.

The other ear cleared up. Then I went to see my primary physician for follow up on blood tests and asked him about it. He looked in the ear but said nothing at all.

When I was young I worked in a bank on a machine that made thousands of very loud noises (stamping the backs of checks and other bank documents) every day. Is it possible that the hearing damage from that is just now manifesting in that ear?

Is there anything I can do? Should I put drops of hydrogen peroxide in and let it sit there for a few minutes?

Is there anything else I can do? And will it go away? And do I need to see an ear specialist, the kind who help people with hearing loss? (I can't recall what that specialty is called.)

Thanks and I'm looking forward to your answers!

  • New Windows 8 Laptop - how do I set the Windows key back to where it opens the start page?

I got a new laptop for Christmas. At first I hated Windows 8. But now when I touch the Windows key on the keyboard between FN and Alt, it doesn't do anything. I often want to go there to open a program or search for a file.

I wonder what happened. But mainly, I want to get it to work again. Do I need to change a setting somewhere or download a fix?

Help please, and I'm totally serious.

  • How do I follow an answer expert on Yahoo Answers?

Recently I have been able to choose to follow some answerers who post in an area for which I have need of much information. However, today I tried to follow another such person, and I couldn't figure out how to do it.

I went to Yahoo help and tried searching there and was unable to locate information regarding this.

I am thinking that maybe the person has selected an option to not allow followers.

I just want to learn from people who are more experienced than I am. Is there anything wrong with that? (NO! )

  • alcohol breath lasts how long?

If I have an 8-oz "Mike's Harder" which is 8% alcohol this evening, will it be on my breath tomorrow evening?

Hopefully you will only answer if you KNOW the answer,

not just to guess, and certainly not just to get points.

Which, by the way, is against the site's policies.

  • Regarding the Additional Child Tax Credit, what would disqualify you from taking it?

    Using this link:

    http://www.irs.gov/uac/Ten-Facts-about-the-Child-T...

    see tip number 10.

It says, "you may be able..." So I am wondering what situations would be able to make you unable.... to take the tax credit.

I understand that the child tax credit is more than my total tax liability.

I believe it means I could claim the additional credit to recover the difference between my tax liability and the $1000 credit. But I can't find the information about what would make me able (and especially, NOT able) to use this.

There are lots of forms and schedules -- and their instructions -- that pertain to this. Can someone explain it in everyday language?

    Thanks ! ! !

  • Tax Preparer test question I cannot solve Re: Child and dependent care?

I have been working on researching this for over 2 hours. Maybe someone out there can answer it for me. Which of the following is NOT an eligible expense for the child and dependent care Credit? 1) Day Camp fee. 2) Cost of the bus to take a qualifying individual to day camp 3) The day care cost of a second qualifying individual 4) Salary for nanny who washes dishes in addition to caring for a qualifying individual,

I suspect the answer is 3 but I have not been able to find documentation for it.

  • On itunes, how do I unsubscribe and then REsubscribe to a podcast downloads site?

Recently my computer died, and I got a new one. On the previous computer, I had a subscription to Joyce Meyer's Enjoying Everyday Life TV programs audios. When I got on to that site to try to download again, I just got a page of script.

I wrote to them and they told me to try unsubscribing and then resubscribing to that through itunes.

So I went on itunes and I was not able to find out how to do that.

I am sure someone out there knows how to do this. Please help.

I want to save some of the answers I've given, especially the ones that were chosen as BEST.

Also I want to save my questions and their answers.

I have discovered that Yahoo does not still allow us to copy them with copy and paste. Yes, BUT

also, I can't figure out how to even read them -- to go back and FIND them again.

    Help please.
