  • Window 8 from XP, anyone had that fun yet?

Installed XP professional many... many... many, years ago. When Vista cam out I looked at it saw the reviews, asked a lot of people that got it... total crape, so I didn't get a copy. Even computer stores thought so and gave the option of an XP down-grade.

Along came Windows 7, but it did not have an upgrade path from XP, only from Vista.

Along comes Windows 8, and there is an upgrade path from XP (oh joyous day).

So this question is for anyone that has attempted to upgrade from XP to Windows 8, how much "fun" have you been having?

  • Why are people so intent to prove or disprove the exsitence of God?

Seriously I don't get it. God is a belief, an intangible, a matter of faith.

Religion is about belief, not about proof.

So why bother, why waste the time?

There are some trolls that call themselves Atheists, but are in effect Anti-theists, and attack peoples beliefs. The Atheists I know don't give a toss and just get on with life, they don't waste their time.

There are some hurt Christians, that react to the trolls, and try to prove the existence of God.

Both are wasting their time... why do they do it?

  • I always had a black dog as a guardian.?

As a child of 4 I used to walk to school (it was a long time ago, and a different time), but I was never alone.

I was always escorted by a black dog. When that dog passed away another took her place, and then another.

    I never felt in danger.

When I go walking a dog will always keep me company, yet I don't have a dog as a pet.

It's just freaky thinking about it.

Anyone else experience that same kind of thing?

  • Eutectic points, how to calculate?

I've been cracking my skull trying to work this out.

I've been playing with Binary phase diagrams, whilst doing some alloy calculations, and I'm a bit stuck.

The Eutectic point is derived mostly from experimentation.

    A) If there are tables of Eutectic values anywhere, please tell me.

    B) If the eutectic point can be can be calculated that would also help me out.

Sure I know there are some metals and alloys, that when combined, do not have a eutectic point, but I'm only interested in the metals that do have a eutectic point.

  • What is the name of this Sci-fi movie.?

    Hi Guys,

Firstly my memory is crumby due to amnesia, so I may get some of the plot wrong.

    ---------

The movie starts off with a boy finding a old strange box, wiht what looks like a funnel on top, he breaks it open, and finds some crystals inside.

He goes to bed that night with the crystals in his hand and has some dreams... cut to the future and he's building the device he saw in his dream.

He jumps on it with some friends, and winds up in an ancient base on an asteroid (I think it's an asteroid).

The alien base puts the people through a series of tests, including one where they feed a spiky cookie to a monster with a mouth on it's hip.

They are deemed worthy and end up piloting the alien base (which can now fly), to fight off an invading armada. They gain the knowledge to operate the "ship" by wearing rubber bald caps with electrodes sticking out of them, and plugging them into boxes similar to the one the boy found all those years ago.

    Okay name that film :-)

    Regards Charles

  • Fire planet Astro Knight Poptropica?

Okay I've progressed in the game, getting into the dungeon for the second time was strangely easy, but well hidden.

My question is, now that I'm on the fire planet how do I get into the volcano, that last jump is proving impossible :-(

  • I dream about God occasionally, any one else?

I dream about God on occasion, usually it hidden in metaphors an symbology.

Nothing meaningful, usually just chewing the fat.

    Anyone else?

  • If "I think therefore I am"...?

is a valid statement for existence.

Is "I don't think therefore I am not" equally as valid an argument for non-existence?

  • In need of fancy cog and gears from clocks?

I need cogs and gears from clocks for a couple of art (steampunk) projects.

As a kid I used to disassemble clocks, to see how they worked and to have a cheap source of spinning tops.

The cogs and gears need to be fancy, maybe with cutout sections, just think old.

Now that I have a practical use for these items I am finding them difficult to obtain.
