Should I Tow Someone Out of My Reserved Parking Space?
I live in a complex where certain condos (not all) have reserved parking spaces attached to them. My place has one reserved space, and I love it because it's literally 20 feet from my front door. However, ever since I started looking at the place, my neighbors parked their vehicles in my spot.
I've started working nights. So now I go into work when everyone gets home, and lately I've come home at 1-4am to find my neighbors in my spot again, which is really frustrating.
In my complex, residents have complete discretion over their parking spaces, and we're even provided a 24-hour towing service free of charge.
But I dunno, I feel bad towing them, because one of them just totaled their car and is driving some beat up truck, and they have a kid. I know getting your car back from being towed is expensive. I could leave a note on their windshield, but I feel that's too passive-aggressive. But I'm afraid if I tow them, they'll mess with mine, my girlfriend's, and her sister's car, or they'll just continue to park in my space to spite me.
I guess I'm thinking too much into it. I see the tow truck here at least 10 times a week towing cars out of other people's spaces, so why do I feel so bad towing someone else's car. What do you think? Give or warning or get the message across and tow them until they stop?
8 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation4 years agoWhat Can I Eat to Stay Full At Work?
I started a new job working at a car wash. I work full time, and spend my whole day out in the heat scrubbing and drying cars, so I burn through my energy very quickly.
The problem is, I'm one of those people that has to eat a lot of small meals throughout the day. If I go too long without eating, I get horrible hunger pains and feel lightheaded and weak.
At this job, if you're scheduled after 12pm, you don't get a lunch break at all. Yesterday I went in at 1pm and didn't get off until 8. Luckily it was a slow day so I they let me take a break. But even then I still had to fight my hunger while I worked.
Now I'm worried what I'll do when it's busy and I have to work 8 hours without being able to eat. They allow us to drink anything we want while we work, but I don't think I'm allowed to eat while I work, because the place just got new owners, and my coworkers told me they're pretty strict.
Any suggestions on how I can get some nutrition to be able to go 8 hours without eating?
4 AnswersDiet & Fitness4 years agoAutomotive Experience on Job Application?
I'm currently applying for a job. On the application it asks to "indicate my previous automotive experience" and gives choices from 0 to 10+ years.
I've never had a job in the automotive industry. But I have taken 3.5 years of automotive technology classes (no degree or ASE certification though). I also spent a couple summers at my friend's shop, and I've also done modifications and maintenance on all 4 of my vehicles.
Would this count as automotive experience? Or are do they mean actual work experience?
1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment4 years agoShould you keep applying at a place that's rejected you before?
I'm trying to get a job at a big retail company. I've applied once over a year ago (for a position I was definitely unqualified for) and was rejected. A couple weeks ago a job popped up for a store associate, so I applied. I was turned down again, I assume because I have only worked as a fast food cashier and as a construction worker, so no retail experience.
Yesterday, an opening for an asset protection associate popped up. The only qualification is that you have a high school diploma.
I'm wondering if I apply, will they just turn me down instantly again because they have me blacklisted or something?
I've been trying to find a job for weeks now. I just wanted something decent till I can save up money to go back to school. Trying to get something other than fast food.
I've don't have a criminal history, and I was a student, but I'm not going back next semester so my schedule is totally flexible.
4 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment4 years agoCan you have IBS, but not all of the symptoms?
Recently, I went to urgent care because for the past month I've had horrible constant indigestion and gas/belching. The doctor told me it sounded like Irritable Bowel Syndrome based on what I told her.
She prescribed me dicyclomine (it relaxes the muscles in your stomach) for 10 days. It's helped a lot, but I still get horrible gas when I lay down, and I can feel my stomach gurgling and will belch a lot for sometime after I get up.
However, I do not have acid reflux, constipation, or diarrhea. Which confuses me as to how this could be IBS, because I don't have all those other symptoms.
I'm worried it's something else. I'm going to see an internal medicine doctor next week. What do you guys think?
3 AnswersOther - Health4 years agoWhat do I do with my registration and plate after I sell my car?
I am currently trying to sell a truck on Craigslist. In my state (NM), the MVD has a plate-to-owner policy, meaning that my plate belongs to me, and gets transferred from vehicle to vehicle.
I'm just wondering when I sell the truck, do I let the new owner drive home on my plates, or do I take them off on site and make them drive home with no plates?
I'm obviously going to take my registration papers out of the truck before I sell it. So if I let the person drive home with my plates, can I just take the registration to the MVD and get it cancelled without actually having the plate with me?
3 AnswersInsurance & Registration5 years agoDoes Carmax give you NADA or KBB value for your car?
I have a 2006 Silverado I'm looking to sell. I want to sell it myself, but I'm a full-time student, and it'll be a hassle with my schedule.
There is a Carmax less than an hour from me, and I'm considering just taking the truck there. But before I do, does Carmax give you NADA or KBB value for your car?
I assume they try to give you as little as they can for it. But if they give NADA value, I'd be happy with the rough trade-in value. If they give KBB, I'm pretty sure I can get more money for it selling it myself.
6 AnswersBuying & Selling5 years agoHow much is my practically brand new laptop worth now?
I custom ordered an HP Spectre x360 ultrabook at the end of July, and received it in August. I bought it with the intentions of using it for school. However, my university has a computer lab where I do all my programming, plus I have a PC I built here at home. So the laptop has seen very little use, Task Manager reports a CPU up time of 41 hours. So it's basically just sat these past 2 months I've had it.
I'm wanting to sell it, and put the money towards something else. I paid over $1500 for the laptop, pricing it on the official HP website shows a price of $1899. Is $1150 a reasonable price to ask for it? I still have the box and all the original packaging and papers.
These are the specs of the laptop:
HP Spectre x360 Convertible
-Windows 10 Home 64 Bit
-Intel Core i7 6500U with Intel HD Graphics 520
-16GB RAM
-512GB Samsung NVMe SSD
-13" 1440p Touch Screen
-Brown/Brass Color Scheme

1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks5 years agoWould fixing cosmetic damage on my truck help it sell quicker?
I recently bought a 2006 Silverado for an absolute steal. I bought this truck with the intentions of flipping it for a small profit. It needed some fixing though.
So far I have about $500 invested in repairs to the truck. I put used tires on it with good tread, new headlights, new center console lid, an alignment, a fresh oil change, new rotors, new belt, and a new air filter. I also gave it a wash and wax and restored all the black trim, and the truck looks amazing.
However the only thing that needs replacing now is the rear bumper. Some kid backed into it, so the bumper is dented on the left corner, and it mashed the bed in a little behind it. The plastic step on top of the bumper also popped out and is sticking out a little.
Apart from that, the truck drives amazingly for being 10 years old and having 137,000 miles. I almost want to keep it for myself.
Anyways, I'm pretty much at my budget limit for fixing up the truck. Would fixing the bumper make it easier to sell the truck? It's about $150 for a new one. I'm going to ask the same price whether I fix it or not, I'm just asking if a buyer would be more interested if it was fixed??
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs5 years agoI have a suspicion that my car shoots flames out the exhaust?
I'm being completely serious. I have a Scion tC which I run a modified exhaust on. It's all aftermarket from the header all the way back, no catalytic converters, just a resonator and muffler. My car does throw the P0420 code, so I believe my car runs rich as well.
I've noticed lately that when I've been driving my car for awhile and everything is warmed up, my exhaust pops and crackles a lot when I'm decelerating in gear. I don't mind that, it actually sounds really good and it's not very loud. But what I've become more concerned about is sometimes I get one really loud POP once in awhile. I wouldn't mind that either, but over the past few weeks I've noticed that when I'm driving around town and there's someone behind me when my car makes that loud pop, that they will back way off. Like they'll be almost tailgating me once second, and after my car makes that loud pop, they now back off a few car lengths.
Could my car be shooting a flame or flames out the exhaust when this happens? I kind of doubt it, but why would people back off? I mean if it does backfire, it wouldn't shoot a huge fireball obviously right? I didn't intentionally try to modify my car to do this either, it's not like it's even powerful or anything in the first place. What do you think?
6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs5 years agoHow to ensure none of my old posts pop back up on Facebook?
So awhile back I reactivated my Facebook so I could message some old friends. I hadn't been on in awhile, and I guess there's this new feature called Memories or something? It went back and started bringing up these really old posts and putting them on my Timeline for everyone to see.
The issue with that is is that it brought up some stuff from when I was talking to this one girl in high school (happened over 4 years ago). My gf saw the stuff and got kinda upset, so I want had to deactivate my Facebook to avoid a fight.
My question is how do I turn this feature off? I looked and looked and couldn't find where I could turn it off. I removed the old posts manually off my timeline, but my friends said they could still see the Memories posts and the stuff I'm tagged in. I really just want to clean all this up and not have to start a new profile.
1 AnswerFacebook5 years agoShould I buy a GTX 1070 or keep my 980Ti?
So I'm in a little pickle. I'm building myself a brand new PC next week. Currently I have a brand new Gigabyte G1 Gaming 980Ti sitting in the box. But since I plan on 1080p 144Hz gaming, I'm having second thoughts, and was thinking maybe I should go for a 1070.
However I kinda don't want to wait for the prices on the 1070 to calm down (why I didn't buy one in the first place), because I'm anxious to build this thing. I was thinking of buying a 1070 now and selling the 980Ti on eBay and try to get back a little of what I spent on it. What would you do?
1 AnswerPC5 years agoScreen "flickering" on 144hz monitor?
So I just ordered parts for a new PC build, and my monitor arrived before the rest of the components. It's an ASUS VG248 144hz 1080p monitor.
I decided to hook it up to my laptop via HDMI to try it out. it works good, but I noticed when I play certain games that the screen will "flicker" a lot. What I mean by flicker is that everything on the screen seems to be jittering up and down really fast. Now keep in mind that the laptop I'm running only has a GT 650M chip, so all my graphics settings are low-medium. But I noticed that in BeamNG Drive and Battlefield 4 that the screen flickers and stutters a lot in menus and during gameplay. Especially in Battlefield 4, the system performance test says I'm running at 80FPS, but the gameplay is really choppy. But when I played Need for Speed Most Wanted and Brutal Doom, there's no flickering and everything works fine.
I'm just wondering if I should be worried about this? I don't have any problems like this on the laptop display. I'm wondering if it might be anti aliasing, or possibly just the HDMI connection? My new PC build is gonna include a 980Ti connected through DVI-D to support the 144hz, and my games will be run maxed out for the most part. After spending thousands on a PC I don't want everything to be flickering.
Monitors5 years agoWhy did my tires wear prematurely on the outside edge?
I bought brand new tires for my Scion tC in 2014. Since then I have only driven my car 17,000 miles, and both front tires are bald on the outside edge now, while the rear tires and the inside of the front tires still look brand new. They are supposed to be a 40,000 mile tire, and were relatively cheap.
What would cause this?
I got my car aligned when I bought the tires at Big O Tires, the measurements are as follows:
Left Front Right Front
-0.8* Camber -0.6* Camber
3.4* Caster 3.4* Caster
0.02* Toe 0.01* Toe
Left Rear Right Rear
-0.8* Camber -0.9* Camber
0.17* Toe 0.18* Toe
Could my alignment have gone bad that fast?
6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs5 years agoWould an SSD improve the speed of an old and low spec laptop much?
My girlfriend's mom gave me an old laptop. It's a Toshiba Satellite C655D laptop. Had Windows 7, which I upgraded to Windows 10. It has an AMD C-50 processor running at 1 GHz, 4GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 ram, and a 250 GB HDD.
I ran a timer, and it took a little over a minute to boot all the way to the desktop. My question is if I replaced the HDD with a cheap 250GB SSD, would it improve load times at all? I'm thinking it really wouldn't, because the rest of the hardware is fairly slow.
I'd mainly use the laptop just for web browsing, writing code, and I'll probably see if it'll run Brutal Doom. This is not my only computer, I'm kinda just curious if an SSD would help anything.
What do you guys think, would an SSD be worth it?
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks5 years agoHow do I go about making an offer on a car that's in poor condition at a dealership?
I'll try to make this as short as possible. There's a 2005 Subaru STI at a dealership near me. It was a car they had to buy back from a customer because it wasn't running right. I asked them what's wrong, and they said there is so much wrong with it, that they don't want to waste any money fixing it, and that if I bought it it would just be an outright sale, no possibility of financing, which is understandable.
Now obviously, I should have walked away at this point, but being as stupid as I am, I took a closer look at the car. CarFax states the car has been in 2 reported accidents, and has had 6 owners. The car itself has 115K miles, and has some mods on it and It also seems to be untuned for those mods, because when I drove it, every single warning light was lit on the dash, and the car would stall out at speed if you let off the gas. The interior was also really stained and dirty, and the car looked like it had been taken through the mud.
Anyways, for some odd reason I'd really like to have this car as a project, and try to revive it. Yes, I know it's a poor financial choice, but that's my choice. I offered them $2K cash for it. The salesman came back and told me the manager wants at least $10K for the car. I think that's a ridiculous price for the car considering the mileage and condition that it's in. I really don't want to pay any more than $4K for it. How can I get the dealership to see eye-to-eye with me and get them to accept an offer?
9 AnswersBuying & Selling5 years agoWhat would be a reasonable offer to make on a 2005 Subaru Impreza STI?
First I'll start off with the basics. It's a white 2005 STI sedan with 115k miles. KBB says this STI is worth $14k in good condition from a dealership, but it's in very poor condition. I'll just list the good and the bad so it's easier to read.
THE GOOD:
-Perrin front mount intercooler
-Possibly upgraded turbo (coudn't tell, but felt like it)
-Cobb intake
-Mishimoto radiator and reservoir
-Invidia downpipe
-HKS hi-power exhaust
-Fully adjustable coilovers (couldn't tell the brand)
-Pulled incredibly hard
THE BAD:
-It has been in 2 accidents according to CarFax
-Has sat through 2 hail storms over the past 5 months
-Battery was completely dead when I went to test drive it
-Tires are shot
-Interior was extremely dirty and stained
-Every single warning light was on in the cluster; ABS, Cruise, Check Engine, Brake, literally every error light was on, not joking
-Car seems to not be tuned for the parts it has
-Car would randomly stall at speed if you let off the gas
-Transmission or the differential was clunking, or it was possibly the suspension
-Transmission seemed to whine and clunk at low speeds
So in the end, the dealership told me they didn't want to bother fixing the car because of all the problems, and they're sending it off to auction in a couple of weeks. They told me to make them a cash offer. The car needs a lot of work, but I'd love to have it as a project, and I'd hate to see this car go to waste. What should I offer them?
1 AnswerSubaru5 years agoIs putting a card on someone's car window considered vandalism?
Like the question says, is putting a card/paper on someone's car considered vandalism? People do it to my car all the time. When I'm parked on campus people always put flyers under my wiper blade to advertise events.
If I were to put some of those cards that say "Hey, you suck at parking" on a person's car, is that considered vandalism?
The real reason I'm asking is that there's these girls at my apartment complex that park like absolute dog****. I'm want to protect my car and my gf's car from dings and dents as much as possible. But it's such an inconvenience to have to park far away from my apartment, because these girls part their stupid Jeeps over the line, or they park so close to you you can't even open your door. I've even seen them open their doors wide open into other people's cars and not even care.
I want them to get the message, but I don't want to get into trouble since they're all pretty much my neighbors.
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics5 years agoIs an SSD worth it for my laptop?
I currently have a Dell Inspiron 17R Special Edition, produced in 2012.
This laptop has an extra 2.5" hard drive slot, so I was thinking of adding a Samsung SSD to it, and moving the OS and my programs to the SSD, and using the HDD to store my documents etc.
However, this particular laptop already comes with a 32GB mSATA SSD, which is used for precaching, Intel Rapid Start and the like.
This laptop isn't slow, it's surprisingly peppy for what it is, so I was wondering if I'll even notice a difference with an SSD? It already boots from Hibernate within 30 seconds. I'm also worried because I can't find if this laptop is SATA I, II, or III, and I don't know if the SSD will even run that fast?
It seems to me there would be minimal change in speed, since this laptop already has an SSD that's used for faster boots and program loading times. What do you guys think?
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks5 years agoWhat would be the better SSD solution?
I have a Dell Inspiron 17R SE laptop that I'm looking to upgrade with an SSD. This laptop has a 1TB SATA HDD, and it also has a mSATA slot to add an additional drive.
I plan to buy a 500GB SSD, and clone my HDD over to the SSD, and replace the HDD and use the SSD as my only drive.
However, I was wondering if it would be a better solution to add an mSATA SSD, put Windows and my programs on that, and keep the HDD for big junk files like my music, documents, etc? I was planning on just having everything on the SSD for speed.
What would you suggest?
