  • Trying to quit smoking and build a nest egg?

So I'm trying to save money to start an emergency fund or even some retirement savings, I've done many things to cut costs but the biggest "hole to patch" is smoking, it seems like we can only cut down on smoking when we're broke, which doesn't help us with the savings part.

    So this is the question,

How do we save when we're addicted to setting our spare money on fire?

(we're 25, make a "middle-class" wage and live comfortably but frugally, not broke, but not rich.)

  • He says he won't cheat?

My husband is getting drunk and staying overnight with a woman he's attracted to, he says he won't cheat on me, I keep telling myself to trust him. but I can't tell if this is paranoia or gut instinct.

She's single and attracted to him as well.

There's another couple in the house, but they are poly and see nothing wrong with sleeping with other people.

He refused to come home when I asked.

I'm a stay at home mom with a young child and family and friends are thousands of miles away.

Is my stressing out justified? What should I do?

  • I can only quit smoking when I'm broke?

Here's the back story,I want to quit smoking to save money, yes, just to save money, I know about the health ramifications (who doesn't at this point?), but they do not matter to me.

I have a quitting method that WORKS, it honestly does, I've used it for 3 weeks straight at one point, but as long as I have spare money the only thing I can think of is getting a pack.

So I can quit as long as I'm broke but I only want to quit so I won't be broke.

How do I break this cycle?

  • Just realized what a btch I was?

    Here's some backstory,

My friend and I are about the the weight and size (yeah, we are heavy girls.), but a few months ago I realized that she had some serious illusions about her (and my) weight.

Namely, she had herself pegged at about 165 lbs and myself at 230 lbs.

due to that she had classed herself as the "skinny" friend and myself as the "fat" friend and it had started to affect the way she treated me.

Now I don't mind being the fat friend, I've played that role before, but using me to inflate your self esteem when you can't even wiggle into my jeans is something that's not tolerated.

Neither of us owned scales and my husband wanted one so I picked it up,

brought it home and everyone stepped on and took a look, except her, her husband eventually convinced her to climb on.

I was 215, I'm pretty ok with that, I was 220 when my husband and I got together so he's still pleased with me, that and I tend to carry it well.

She was 200, when she saw it she freaked, I can't tell if it's because she now knows how much she actually weighs or because we do.

    She hasn't been around since.

    So, question time.

Should I offer to work out with her so we can both get in better shape?

Just let her have time to figure out if our friendship still serves a purpose?

Should I drop her a$$ like its on fire?

  • Spending a month eating vegetarian?

    Any tips?

my reasons behind this: are because I can, saves money, and I mildly dislike cooking meat anyways.

seeing as I'll be only cooking for myself and my 3 yr old daughter seems like a good project.

so any tips and/or good recipes?

  • Trying to quit smoking, any advice on how to make my friends smoke outside?

Having them smoke inside is really hurting my powers of willpower, and prolly isn't to good for my kidlets lungs, I've already moved all ashtrays outside, but they just grab an empty popcan from the bin and use that.

It feels rather hypocritical to directly ask them to move it outside seeing as we're just trying to quit now and had smoked indoors previously.

    help?

  • Would it be odd for me to go to a funeral for a soldier I don't know?

I'm a military spouse, but I'm rather new at this as my husband has only be in this military for about 10 months so far, it's happening tomorrow and on the radio they invited the legion and any cadets who can attend, but said nothing about civilians (or whatever I am now) would I be in the way? am I welcome? do I even have the right to be there? My husband says I should but he's in training right now so if I'm going its on my own.

I just want to show some support is all.

  • just applied for my first credit card, but what do I do if I get it?

I went to the bank a few days ago, and they offered me a credit card, and on a whim I decided to apply, but I'm worried about what I should do with the card if I get it. should I freeze it in a can of water and thaw it only for emergency? or should I choose a small bill to pay off each month to improve my credit? the card I applied for has cashback, a 19.8% interest rate and a 21 day "grace" period.

  • writing a story for my daughter, looking for constructive criticism?

    here it is.....

    Anna of the fields

Once upon a time, there lived Anna. Anna was a young girl who lived on a farm with her family. She was a young but hard-working girl who loved to learn and do kindness unto others. Anna loved her family too, she liked to fish in the stream with her three brothers, help her father with the animals, and help her mother bake bread in the morning. What Anna loved most though, was running. She was the fastest runner in her village, she could go to marketplace and back before the sun reached it's peak in the blue sky.

One day, when the sleepy sun was just peeking over the mountains, her mother woke her and asked her to go to market. Her mother said “Take these loaves of bread to the old woman who sells potions and herbs.Your eldest brother is ill and needs a tonic to recover.” Anna dressed quickly, packed a small lunch for her trip, kissed her mother and her sick brother goodbye and took off through the fields.

Halfway to the village Anna met a beggar, the beggar's face was badly scarred and he was missing one eye. “Hello sir” Anna spoke, “ I'd like to know what happened to your face, I have bread, cheese, berries and clear spring water to share if you'd kindly tell your story.” The begger looked up , shielding his eye from the sun “Dear child, I would be happy to lighten my burden for a little food, sit down little one, and we will talk.”

By the time the last sweet berry was eaten Anna had learned much about the man, he had once been a brave soldier and had lost his eye in a fierce battle. His lord had felt he was useless with only one eye and had dismissed him. The man, feeling ashamed, never returned to his wife and child. “Why not?” asked Anna not understanding why anyone would want be alone rather than with family. “What woman would want a man as scarred as I am? What child would want a father who is useless?” he replied, Anna sat a moment and thought about what he had said, then speaking quietly, she said “My mother says it is not a man's face that draws a good woman to him, but his heart. As for myself, I would be proud to have a father who went into battle to protect me and what I held dear. Perhaps you should go to your home as a beggar and see if your family receives you.” The man nodded, and started walking slowly towards the village.

  • I need some advice...?

I'm a proud mother of a seven month old girl, but my mom in law (M-I-L) seems to want to raise her, she wants me to wean my little one and go back to work full time so she can watch her ("that's what I quit my job for") now here the kicker.. we live together, and now that she's quit her job, they can't afford us NOT living here, and I have to respect the woman of the house, it's how I was raised. She has two sons but no daughters, and I'm getting the feeling now like she really wanted a girl, so I'm concerned, Is my M-I-L just REALLY involved , or is she trying to get the daughter she never had?
