How to find monologues?
Where should I look to find good audition monologues for auditions for college theatre programs? It seems like most of the ones online are overdone, not age appropriate, not from a play, or too long or too short. I'd like some that are 1.5 - 2.5 min long, both dramatic and comedic. Would it be best to find plays with female characters between ages 13 and 25 (that's about the range I could play without it being weird) and try to find monologues in them?
4 AnswersTheater & Acting9 years agoHow to think about things less?
I tend to have a problem where I get really obsessive about certain things and always think about them. What it is changes from time to time (certain books, movies, people, songs, right now its food) but it gets annoying. How do I stop?
7 AnswersPhilosophy9 years agoWhat should I major in in college?
I am a junior in hs, just starting to think about college. I'm planning on doing a double major because I love theatre and want to learn more about how to become a better actress, etc, but as much as I love theatre and think I do have talent, I know that no matter how hard you work, it is really really hard to get steady employment in theatre, so I want to major in something else as well. However, I have a lot of differing interests, so its hard for me to choose one thing that I want to actually be able to have a a career in. I am a good student and I don't really know what school I want to go to yet.
Some jobs/areas I'm interested in:
Event Planning
Running a summer camp or charitable organization or my own theatre company or some combination of the three
Something having to do with animals, like animal rescue or working at a zoo
Helping people somehow
Mental Health- like a therapist or something, I don't know
Nutritionist
Environment/conservation
Something with activity/adventure stuff, like a rockclimbing guide or something
Teaching theatre
Cooking/baking/owning a restaurant
And other things too...
So what would be a good second major for me?
3 AnswersHigher Education (University +)10 years agoFun ideas for a Halloween party?
I'm having a Halloween party tomorrow night and there will be 7 - 15 of us, we are already going to 1 or 2 haunted house and having a bonfire with s'mores, but I'm not sure what else to do... We are Juniors in HS, my parents will be home, and its mostly girls, so with that in mind, any ideas for activities (that don't require a lot of planning or "now we're gonna do this"), foods, or decorations? Thanks!
3 AnswersHalloween10 years agoWhat colleges have good theatre programs?
I am a junior in HS and I'm just starting my college search. I want to major in theatre, but I want to get a good core education as well. My school doesn't do normal GPA, but my unweighted average last year was about 96, weighted was about 98.
What I want in a school:
Not too small (no less than 2,000, because I don't want to go somewhere smaller than my high school), but also not to big (not more than like 10,000 or 11,000)
Not in the Midwest (I don't have a problem with the Midwest, but I live there now and would like to go pretty far away from home)
Good theatre program
Good school in general
So far I'm looking at:
Emerson College in Boston, Mass.
Elon University in North Carolina
Hofstra University in New York (not NYC)
Loyola New Orleans
Any ideas? Also, anything else someplace warm? There seem to be a lot in the Northeast, but I hate the cold...
3 AnswersTheater & Acting10 years agoAudition for A Little Night Music?
I am auditioning for the part of Fredrika in A Little Night Music
& I was thinking of singing "I Know Things Now" from Into the Woods, but it doesn't sound anything like the song she sings in the show. So would it still be a good choice?
Or should I do something else?
Any suggestions?
The character is 13 (I'm 16) & since its a Sondheim show, I've heard you are supposed to audition with a Sondheim song? Or should I not
1 AnswerTheater & Acting1 decade agoWhat type of college do you think I could get into?
I'm only a sophomore in high school but I'm starting to think about college. I'm interested in theatre, psychology, zoology, creative writing, & fashion design, in that order. I'd probably want to major in theatre, but possibly double major with one of the others.
My lowest grade is a 93, & my highest is a 99. The others are 96's & a 97. I am in 3 honors classes. Next year I will most likely be in 2 APs & possibly one or two honors as well. Senior Year I'll be in one AP, maybe more.
So what colleges sound good for me? I know there are a lot, but any ideas. What schools should I not even bother looking at?
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoWhich sounds like a better idea for a musical?
idea 1:
Set in a nearly bankrupt 1950's/1960's beauty salon & the tiny town its in. The girls who work there are trying to figure out ways to raise money to keep it open. Bessie (the main character), who works at the salon has a bad reputation & most of the people in the town dont like her. The salon owner's son, Davey, is Bessie's best friend from childhood, & is secretly in love with her. Shes also secretly in love with him. They end up with each other. There are also a couple of subplots & plenty of other characters, but it would be hard to explain all of it.
idea 2:
(i dont have names yet. any suggestions?)
A girl in her older teens is the daughter of two genius astrophysicist/rocket scientist parents. She isnt nearly as smart as them. She is in love with the genius intern who helps her parents. She pretends to be smart for him, but he rejects her. She is sad & goes for a walk & meets a blind guy who works at a newspaper stand. They fall in love.
Both would be comedies

2 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade agoDoes anyone know of any musical theatre residence summer camps?
As many as you can think of, as long as they are in the USA.
Preferably two to four weeks long.
Also which ones are actually good?
& are there any with lower prices that are still good?
1 AnswerTheater & Acting1 decade agoHow to sing in front of an audience?
I have sang in front of an audience/people hundreds of times & I still get incredibly nervous.
When I listen to recordings of myself when I'm home alone, I think I have a pretty good voice.
When I listen to recordings of myself from musicals/concerts/etc, I sound bad.
Help? I'm taking voice lessons & I sound ok in front of my voice teacher but not as good as when I'm alone
7 AnswersPerforming Arts1 decade agoWhat musical theatre song should I work on at my voice lessons?
I've just started taking voice lessons & my teacher told me to pick a song that I'd be interested in working on for the next few weeks. It should be from a musical. I'd like it to be challenging but not too too hard. & I am trying to work on transitions from high to low/head voice to chest voice & low to high/chest voice to head voice, so I'd like it to have a fairly wide range.
I'm not sure what my vocal range is, but I know I can sing at least to a high A.
3 AnswersTheater & Acting1 decade agoAre there any musicals with 50 parts?
Are there? or at least an expandable ensemble cast? What are some musicals with ALOT of parts?
7 AnswersTheater & Acting1 decade agoDoes this sound like an interesting story/book idea? And name suggestion?
It would be called Optical Illusions (most likely unless someone has a better title)
& basically heres the story.
Three students at a small town highschool have three very interesting sets of eyes.
First, there's Solani, who is a freshman. She is incredibly short for her age & her parents are sort of "hippies"/just kind of strange. They've never let her cut her hair (so it is incredibly long) and they homeschooled her for grade school. As a result of this shes kind of different & a lot of people think she's weird. On to her eyes. They 1: are very pretty 2: are colorblind 3: can read people's thoughts. The thoughts of the people show up on their body like tattoos, only to Solani.
Next, there's Patricia Ann, who goes by Trixi & is a sophomore. She's the average "popular" girl: semi-rich, nice clothes, always has her hair straightened, wears a little too much makeup, skinny, etc. She's really not average at all, though, and this is because of her eyes. They have 2 interesting things about them 1: they are very pretty (light icy blue) 2: they see things as they are now most of the time, but will randomly flash to how they were once or how they will be in the future. (she might see a parking lot one second but then she'll see it as a forest it used to be or see her friends as old people for a second)
Finally there is the boy, who i havent figured out the name yet, who is also a sophomore. He has brown hair and is from an average family. He is an all around nice guy and he was made fun of in gradeschool, but now he "fits in" more. His eyes 1: are very pretty, with a "kaleidoscope"ish pattern 2: change color with his emotion (so he wears green color contacts) & 3: the people around him are tinted to the color that he associates with the emotion that they are feeling.
so basically they all meet up one day & yeah, i dont know what really happens, but I'll come up with something. any help on that? does it sound good? & whats a good name for the boy?

2 AnswersLyrics1 decade agoWhat should you do if you hate your role in a musical?
I have a show coming up, Charlotte's Web. Its at a highschool, so it has some stuff added and taken out, but its still like G rated and everything. I love the show, its funny & has great songs & all the other parts seem awesome, but I'm Mrs. Arable, which is Fern's mom. I feel like its the most boring role on the planet earth & I'm doing a terrible job at it. Any tips on how to spice it up while still sticking to the character of a slightly worried mother who wants her kids to be happy?
