I am an One God Jesus Name believer living in California. I am in the ministry. I believe in loving one another as we would love ourselves. Lending a helping hand to others will make life better for anyone, Christian or not. I love teaching Bible studies. Feel free to contact me if you are interested. I am concerned with the issue of suicide. I am involved in finding ways to help those who are effected by it, whether by having thoughts about it, having attempted it, or have had someone close commit it. I am looking for ways to help my local suicide prevention network in educating the public about this problem and finding ways get to people before they make this kind of permanent decision. I am interested in health and nutrition. I believe that God gave us amazing bodies that are capable of healing themselves quite well if we take care of them properly. I believe that food is the most powerful drug we can consume. Diet can harm or heal.

  • What is the Promise of Redemption for Israel?

I recently read an article written by Rabbi Pinchas Winston called "Connecting the Dots". In this article he states the following:

"To quote the (U.S.) President-Elect himself, this election is about change, and for all those Jews who voted for him to preserve the status quo of a comfortable American exile, well, Heaven may have other plans.

Especially given the fact that every curse in the Torah has already come true.

Especially given the fact that the promise of remembering the land has also already come true.

Especially given the fact that the promise of the ingathering the exiles has been underway for some time now.

The Jews of Eretz Yisroel have been tested, and they will continue to be tested. But we are, ultimately, where all Jews have to end up by the end of history. ..... Logically-speaking, given what has already occurred historically so far, and what has to occur to make the Torah complete its promise of redemption, it would seem that life in the Diaspora has to become less desirable than life in Eretz Yisroel."

With regards to the fulfilled promises of Torah and the future redemption; what (from a Jewish point of view) is it that has to occur for the promise of redemption to be completed? What current events are taking place right now that point towards that happening? I get a sense that things are wrapping up faster and faster, and that the promise of redemption will soon be upon us. For good or for bad, the whole world will have to "participate" in the redemption process, and all the world will see it happen when G-d brings it to pass. Despite what some may say, the Jews are still G-d's chosen people and Yisroel is still the land of promise that belongs to Yisroel.

Thanks for any help that can be given.

  • Jewish New Year this year?

The New Year starts this year by the Gregorian calendar on September 30, I believe. In Exodus G-d told Moshe that Pesach was to be comemorated on the 14th of the first month, which is also the month that Yisrael was delivered from Egypt and also the month that Yisrael entered into the Promised Land. The first month is also the month when the barley is recognized as being in the state of abib (they ate "parched corn" after they crossed the Jordan River).

My question is why is the New Year celebrated in conjunction with Yom Kippur and the feast of Tabernacles (booths) rather than Pesach? I don't quite get this. Please help me out. Thanks.

    Shalom and Happy New Year!

  • Jews, can you help me out?

Now that Shabbat is past I wanted to direct a question to our Jewish friends here on R&S

I have read that converts to Judaism are baptized. Is this true? If it is, where does that come from? Why is it important? What do Jews believe baptism does? I have not, to this point, found anything regarding baptism in the Tanach, except for maybe when Israel crossed through the Red Sea and then again the Jordan River.

Many Christians have a tradition of baptism, with many differing beliefs about it. I know where baptism comes from regarding Christians, but Jews I do not....

Thanks for any help you can give me.

  • What is the time line of our forefathers? Avraham - Moshe - David?

The number of generations from Avraham to David are fourteen; from David to Babylonian captivity is fourteen; from captivity to Yeshua is fourteen. How many years does this approximate to for each fourteen generation period, and total?

How many generations are there from Avraham to Moshe? How many years does that approximate to?

I just read that it was just about 3,500 years since the first Pesach. That got me to thinking about the generational time lines. Any help any of you can give me would be great.

  • The Rapture: When is it?

For those who believe in the rapture of the church: When will it happen? Will it be a pre-, mid-, or post-tribulation rapture?

Please explain your view from the Scriptures, not just what you have been told or just want to believe. I want answers that are founded upon the Bible, because the word of the God is truth. Man's opinions might not be. Thanks.

  • Easter or the resurrection after the Passover: which will you observe?

Please provide the reasons why you will observe one over the other. Or if you will not observe either, let me know why for that as well.

  • Christians, what do you do with John 3:3-8?

Jesus said that we must be born again of the water and of the Spirit in order to enter, or for that matter, even see the kingdom of God. What are you doing to follow after that commandment? Please provide Scripture for how you are doing so.

  • Atheists, what do you think about this?

If there is no God, then how do you explain the miraculous?

I'll give you a few examples:

In a fully documented case, a man died instantly in a car accident (his car was basically crushed by a big rig truck), was dead for 90 minutes, but came back to life after a man crawled into his wrecked car and prayed for him. This man came back to life with no brain damage and no internal injuries.

I personally told a room full of my college dorm mates that the weather man was wrong and that God said that particular storm was not going to miss us, but would rather pass over us and that it would rain for 3 days. The next day it rained and it rained for the next 3 days.

I prayed for a woman last night who had chronic back pain that the doctors told her could only be fixed by surgery, and even then it was not guaranteed. After I prayed for her the pain was completely gone and she could move around freely like she had not been able to do for years.

How would you explain these few instances?

  • Why Can't I View a Question Anymore?

I posted an answer to a question. Later on I went to check that question out again to see how others had been answering the question and i noticed that now it had been marked as resolved. When I clicked on the question I received the message "You cannot view this question at this time." The user has not blocked me, I have not received any email notifications that I was in violation, or anything of the like. What other reasons could there be that would cause Yahoo! Answers to block me from viewing a question? I have never encountered this before.

  • What do you think can be done to help lower the rate of suicides?

As a minister and after having someone that I knew and had somewhat regular contact with commit suicide, it hit close to home. Less than a week later I found out the county I live in has the highest suicide rate in our state. This is a problem, a very serious problem! I am trying to help out with a group that is searching for ways to reduce (ideally eliminate) the rate of suicides.

What can be done to help prevent people from making this tradgic decision? It hurts so many people.

  • How do you reach out to someone who's child committed suicide?

I have a friend who's son committed suicide and I have been trying to reach out/console/minister to him. This is new territory for me, something that I never wanted to deal with or for anyone else to go through. I have had other friends lose children to accidents, illness, etc., but never to suicide! How would you deal with this? It is a very senitive subject for most people, please be sensitive in your answers.

  • Would a MWC-WAC merger be good for BCS bowl invites?

What if BYU, TCU, Utah, Air Force, Wyoming merged with Boise State, Fresno State, Nevada, Hawaii, and San jose State to form a new conference? Would that conference produce the kind of strength for one of those teams to get a BCS game invite on a consistant basis, with the possibility of playing for the championship? I think with those 10 teams playing one another the quality of those programs could end up being scary good. Some of them already are.
