  • is there some sort of superstition about eating all white food in asia?

it has happened twice, once in china and once in japan. i was picking myself whatever food i liked and when i sat down on the table someone else pointed out - hey all your food is white. im from europe so i hadn't been paying any attention to it at all, just picked what tastes i liked. but as it happened twice i started thinking maybe there is some superstition or folklore in asia associated with eating white food. nobody in europe has ever pointed anything like that out to me

  • how to calculate this probability problem?

i have a device that has a probability of failure when operated, acceptable failure rate is lets say 1%

now i have to test if the device conforms to this criteria or not

up to lets say 2% of the devices i test may later be found to be non-conforming, no more

i can test for its functionality but the probability for finding the problem with single test is the same 1% failure rate. fortunately i can perform the test n times.

So the question is, how many times do i have to perform the test to be 98% sure the device conforms to max 1% failure rate criteria

  • european stolen vehicles blacklist?

is there an european union wide blacklist for stolen vehicles? specifically i had my scooter stolen

i would like to have its vehicle identification number in some blacklist so when someone buys it from the thieves and goes to register it i get the scooter back. unfortunately here in estonia they do not register scooters with 50cc or less engines.

i did report this to the police but they are likely to find it only when they uncover some hoard of stolen goods or smth like that

  • any tips on soldering aluminium?

planning to solder together pc watercooling waterblock out of aluminium i have lying around. i know aluminium soldering is tricky business and i have never done it before so im asking for some knowhow. im planning to use ALUSOL solder to do it,

Solder with water-soluble four-core flux. Suitable for soft soldering of aluminium, stainless steel and other low alloy metals. Not suitable for electrical joints and duralumin. Normally requires no prior processing of oxidised surfaces. Alloy: tin 18 %, lead 80.1 %, silver 1.9 %. Melting temperature between 178–270 °C. Suitable tip temperature 350 °C

a heat gun to heat up the pieces of aluminium and that's about it.

so far i know that aluminium high heat conductivity and oxidation make soldering it difficult, if anyone with experience on the matter knows some reason why my plan will not work or has any additional tips, please answer

  • why dont they have changeable batteries on electric cars instead of slow plug-in charging?

each car could have a standard size changeable battery pack that you could change for a fully charged one at nearest "gas station", task easily automated. and voila, you have a charged electric car in minutes instead of hours. gas stations would receive empty battery packs keep them until charged and return to use, clients would pay the electric bill and for replacing dead batteries everybody wins
