Where should I look for an inexpensive wedding dress?

I am most likely having a very small wedding and do not want to spend tons of money on a dress.

A few options:

-ebay
-Craig'slist.com
-FreeWeddingClassifieds.com-has a huge selection of wedding dresses
-thrift stores like Salvation Army
-consignment shops
-Sample sales-Here you will find designer dresses at major discounts. However, they are usually only in NYC and LA. Try www.topbutton.com for places.

Remember to keep in mind that alterations will be a cost-look for dresses that are no more than 2 sizes bigger or smaller.

I had a small yet elegant wedding last October. I wanted a dress that reflected that...elegant and simple.

What I did, was I found a bridesmaid's dress that I loved and ordered it in off white. It was SO cheap since it was a bridesmaid's dress. The same style dress categorized as a "bridal gown" was 4 times as much!

(I found David's bridal to have really tacky dresses)

I ended up having an extra layer of chiffon added to the outside of the skirt and I had the sleeves changed, and the dress SILL only ended up costing around $200!! If you dont need to alter the dress as much as I did, you could spend considerably less!

A few suggestions: Look for an informal gown. I got a beautiful, but rather simple dress for $350. Jessica McClintock is a designer who makes a lot of informal dresses. Along those same lines, most bridesmaids dresses can be ordered in white. They tend to be simpler and less expensive. Also, look for a dress either off the rack (like the floor model) or a close-out or discontinued dress. One thing to keep in mind with this, is the dress might need a lot of alterations which can add up.

Davids Bridal sometimes has a sale where dresses are $100.00, plus Chadwicks of Boston has a bridal line that is very inexpensive. Also, I don't know your size but Lane Bryant just started a bridal line also that is inexpensive. Also, you could try any consignment shop in your area.

Many places offered recycled wedding dresses in consignment shops. I would recommend consignment shops over anything else because the sellers are motivated to produce a quality product to the buyer.
