Does "Alchemist" and "Chemist" have differences?

Aside from the spelling, is there differences on what they symbolize and what they mean?

Alchemists were pseudoscientists who tried to convert lead into gold since both metals are very similar. Alchemy is often associated with magic and sorcery, but not always so. Chemistry grew out of alchemy to become an actual science. Chemists work with chemicals, compounds, molecules and atoms to create new things like medicines, plastics etc.

Alchemy is medieval chemistry. =) Alchemy involves the transfer of energies/special powers. There has also been a good deal in alchemy about changing lead into gold O.o There are also subjects/topics like the philosopher's stone (Harry Potter) involved with alchemy

Alchemists were interested in what we'd call psuedo-science today, things like turning lead to gold, making objects "float," etc.

i think it is just time .the Alchemist" preceding the Chemist"

yes. there are countless texts about this argument. basically i think chemistry is understanding the world around us and alchemy is manipulating it, for instance things like turning lead into gold is alchemy.
