Is there any significance to people putting really old ages in their profiles on My Space, Yahoo, etc?

I have noticed so many teens and young adults putting "99," "100," etc., in their profiles. Does this mean anything?

Is this just a way to make it easier to search for them? (Most actually put their age somewhere, just not where the site asks.)

Or is this a way to communicate certain things like "I'm looking for sex," or "I smoke pot," or even something more innocent like, "I like a certain rock group?"

Most of them just don't want to give out their real age. Sometimes it's because they don't want to be contacted by members of the opposite sex who will just harrass them, other times it's just another way to safeguard their privacy.

That's a good question...and to be honest, I don't get why people put down fake ages. I think there is an option that allows your age to remain hidden if people prefer not to share it.
Personally, I don't really care. My accurate age is displayed.
