My friend has a rough dry spot on one side of his face just below his temple. It's about one square inch. It's sometimes red, but never itches, burns, or peels. He puts lotion on it 2-3 times a day and stays well hydrated, but neither have affected it. It's been there for around 3 and a half months. He REALLY wants it gone. Do you know what it is or how to treat it?

He needs a doctor. Sores that don't heal are a big sign of skin cancer!
How old is he? Is he in the sun a lot? Is it a different color than the rest of his face? It could be an age spot which is a spot that is discolored on the face, neck, or arms that older people get, but then again it could be a lot of other things, like deadened skin. Get it checked out by a dermatologist.
It sounds like psoriasis. If so, there is a prescription treatment (called scalp oil) that is very effective. Your friend needs to see a doctor most likely.
pershaps a fungus or a nerve ending, this is one only a doctor could fix I am afraid. they can take scrapings of the area and see if they can find anything that way and then do a blood test to see if it is something else.
