2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited or 2002 Honda CR-V?
My parents and I are debating between a used Jeep or CR-V for my first car. What are your opinions?

Automatic transmissions in newer jeeps have a history of being problematic. Yet the transfer cases are about as good as they get. If you don't mind a manual transmission and you want to play in it...get the jeep. If you are looking for something to mainly just deal with snowy or icy roads in, a CR-V will do just fine. I'm not saying that the Cherokee won't, I'm just saying that it could be a little overkill. The Cherokee will also cost a little more in the long run when it comes to gas, "possible" repairs, and insurance.

The Grand Cherokee is a lot nicer but it might not be as reliable as the CR-V. The Honda, however, will have an I-4 and will be just bare bones while the Jeep will be loaded, since it's a Limited. It might also have a V8, which is cool, but I don't know if you worry about mpg that much. If you do, you might want to get the CR-V. Good luck.

I would say that the CRV is a much better suv for a first time driver. The CRV is much safer and gets better fuel economy. Also, the Jeep is going to be much more expensive to maintain over time. Obviously, the Jeep is going to be a far superior vehicle for 4-wheeling. However, day-to-day highway driving the CRV definitely beats the Jeep. The Jeep is "cooler", but the residual value of the CRV will also be better. Overall, the CRV is a much more practical first car.

I see your name is Paul so im guessing you're male. Also you say its your first car so im guessing you're in high school. Im in high school and i have an 01 grand cherokee and a lot of other kids do to. If it were me i would pick the jeep not only because i own one but because it's styling is better and its USA. In my opinion the designer of the CR-V should be hung- it is very ugly. go jeep hands down. not only is it a hot *** car but you can go anywhere and the ladies love it.

Jeep grand cherokee is what i would want to choose, but the CR-V is probably a more economical choice, less insurance cost, higher fuel milage, lower cost. But the jeep is much better in style and luxury and its way better in say a snow storm
