Why is there so much talk of Hindi and Bollywood films on this site?

Is this industry becoming really big, or is it just that alot of users on here are Indian and speak English? I'm not asking because I dislike the movies, it's that I really don't know anything about them? Are these movies shown in theaters in the United States? I know occasionally I'll see a movie at the video store or on TV like the movie "Bollywood/Hollywood", but that's really a Candian Movie, is it not?

I guess what I'm asking is this, I don't see tons of questions about Spanish movies, or German movies, or Japanese movies, only occasional ones. What is with the obviously numerous questions about Hindi movies and actors?

India produces more movies than any other country. They are the movie capital of the world. They aren't real expensive flicks, but there are a lot of them and people in India love their movies.

i have sri lankan blood, and my dad loves bollywood movies. i am not so hooked into it, but as i see it, it is very rich in display of culture, which makes it interesting, especially to those unfamiliar to it... the dances and the clothes... fairly cultural... and who doesn't love to see something new? right?
