Do you think Tiger Woods will break Jack Nicklaus' record of winning 18 Majors?
So far Tiger has won 12 Majors and he has always said his goal growing up was to break Nicklaus' record of 18 Major wins. He's only 30, but he hasn't been playing well in the Majors lately. Do you think he still has a chance? He also wanted to break Nicklaus' record of overall wins, but I can't see him doing that, because he doesn't play in enough tournaments. Nicklaus used to play every week almost because they didn't make the kind of money they do now.
By the time Nicklaus was at Tiger's stage in his career he had cut back playing- he was into golf course design at a very young age- Murifield in Ohio was being built at this point in Nicklaus's life that Tiger is at. Tiger will get to about 20 or 21 majors- he only needs about one a year until he turns 40 and he gets some favorable courses to win majors on- he can win at Augusta any year, the 2008 US is at Torrey Pines where he's won five Buick Invitationals, the 2009 US is at Bethpage in New York where he dominated the 2002 Open. The 2010, and probably 2015, British will be at St. Andrews and he owns St. Andrews.
With out a doubt, even though he fell apart on Sunday a little, he still wins about 80% of the tournaments he enters, that means in less than three years he will have a shot at passing Nichlaus. I bet he finishes his career with 28-34 major wins, maybe more!
He's so strong and focused, that's why he the best golf in the world. He will pass Nicklaus. When, that is the question!
Yes I think he will...but few people out there realize that Jack was in the running in major tournaments all the time...the fact that he actually finished second in 19 majors bears this out...its kind of interesting that Tiger has never won from behind...I posted on here several times that most of the guys playing today choke when tiger is on the lead or close on moving day(check tigers stats and finishing round scores when he wins close majors, he is actually at par or over most of the time, coasting in) ...kudos to the argentinian for actually shooting under par both weekend days, seemed like he didnt know that he was supposed to choke (and no one speaking english would have tipped him off, he needed an interpreter to make his post tourney statements)...something that few people do when tiger is prominent on the board on the weekend... at 31 and actually having rebuilt his swing twice, its just a matter of getting a few more putts to roll, but I believe he will get it done...should be a little easier for him once he has his child and gets into a routine at home...
Woods has a shot at breaking the majors record held by Nicklaus, but I don't think he will eclipse the tour victories record held by Sam Snead, not Nicklaus. Snead won 80 PGA events and 70 other sanctioned events.... Nobody will ever break that record.
