Should Tiger Woods be classed as the greatest golfer ever due to his scoring records in the Majors?
Even though Tiger hasn't conquered Nicklaus' record of 18 Majors yet should he still be regardedas the greatest because of his 14 Majors at present and his scoring records in the Majors while winning them. As Tiger holds all of the records in the Majors for the most under par and holds 2 of the aggregate records as well. Okay one aggregate record and one joint aggregate record. That has to put him at the top in my opinion, even now, even though he hasn't equalled or broken Nicklaus' record of 18 Majors yet. And it is just a matter of time before he equals or breaks Jack's record and crusades towards being the undisputed greatest anyway in my opinion. Winning the US Masters and US Open by 12 and 15 shots is ridiculous and Nickalus and co never looked like doing anything like that in all the years they played therefore Tiger has to be the greatet golfer ever at this point. It is like saying Carl Lewis is better than Michael Johnson and Usain Bolt at sprinting which clearly isn't the case as they hold quicker times than him in the 200m and 100m as well as winning many meals globally. Tiger Woods is the Muhammad Ali of golf and the all the old - time golfers are not even close to being as good as him when he was or is at his best. And it is only goin to get better when you look at the young golfers coming through at the moment who may well end up even better than Tiger while beating his scoring records in the Majors. Plus Tiger is playing against better players in addition to playing on harder and longer courses compared to the 1960s, 1980s and 1990s. Okay the equipment is better now but it evens itself out with the courses being harder now. Of course Jack was awesome as well and so was his competition but every sport gets better with every generation and golf is no different. Just think how good the golfers will be in 100 nd 200 years from now! They will probably be shooting 54s, 56s and 59s regularly lol. And maybe someone will shoot 72 under for 4 rounds on a par 72 course as well lol. You never know how human development will progress and advance through time.
I don't have to convince myself of anything as I am already convinced %100 lol. Tiger holds all of the records for the most under par in the Majors as well as holding one aggregate record and one joint aggregate record. So in my book that makes Tiger better than anyone else as he has also won 14 Majors in addition to holding the scoring records in all of the Majors that everyone else wishes they undoubtedly held lol. But we could be here until doomsday as everyone has ther own opinion which should be respected.
When Tiger was at his absolute best when he was breaking all the 72 hole scoring records in athe Majors from starting from 1997-2006 then he never missed a fairway ol. So I don't know where you are coming from there lol. And Tiger will undoubtedly get that from back. Look how good Greg Norman was in his late 30s and early 40s so Tiger will be even better when he reaches that age.

tiger could have retired 5 years ago and still been classified the greatest golfer ever. Dude has had an insane career already, cant wait to see the numbers by the time he is done.

Comparing golfers is much like comparing baseball players. Different players from different eras are hard to compare to each other. New equipment is invented. Bigger prize money allows people to train for golf full time vs. having it be a part time career. Cross training is a newer thing on the golf scene. These guys run, lift weights and become much more athletic.
For his time and day Tiger Woods is one of the best. I have a hard time calling him the greatest because there is one aspect of his game that he has never been that good at. Tiger likes to lap the field and run away with the win. What he rarely does is come from behind to win. If you can get into the final round with Tiger Woods behind you then I'll wager he remains that way.
Sorry but that keeps him from being the greatest ever. Great players find a way to win no matter where they are on the leaderboard.

I don't believe that Tiger will ever beat Nicklaus' record of 18 majors. Tiger is now 35 years old, and there is a tremendous amount of young talent just coming online.
I think Tiger Woods is more analogous to the Williams sisters in tennis. He clearly changed the sport through better conditioning, training and equipment. This caused many young golfers to emulate him. However, now these golfers who were children when Tiger burst on the scene ~15 years ago are pros. We need to see how he does against this new crop of talent before we can declare him the greatest ever.

No. You're really doing some mental gymnastics to convince yourself that Tiger is better than Nicklaus when Nicklaus holds the record that everyone cares about.
If you want to try and compare performances in two eras, examine the fact that Tiger could never even consistently hit a fairway with a 460cc driver and a modern ball that any hack can hit straight. I can't imagine how much his game would have been exposed had he played in the era of Nicklaus.

By far, the only flaw in his game is his driving accuracy which isn't as big of a problem with the shots he can make. His is the greatest putter ever. He is the greatest clutch player ever. He and Ben Hogan are the best ball strickers ever. When its all said and done he'll have over 100 wins and 25 majors.

He is the best player ever, without a doubt.
you have to take into consideration the fact that EVERYONE has got better on the PGA tour - Woods has dominated a bunch of players, most of whom are better than Nicklaus, Palmer etc ever were.

Nope, not untill he beats Jack, btw hes not the best ball striker ever either, that was Ben Hogan.
