Best restaurant in Detroit/ metro area?

We moved from Chicago and were spoiled by the restaurants there. Now that we're in Detroit for my husband's job, we are eager to begin sampling the best of the Detroit metro area restaurant scene. What's your favorite?

Best of the Best is probably "Tribute" in Farmington Hills. Very pricey and very exlcusive.

Best Asian: "Mon Jin Lau" in Troy, (I believe.)

1.)Best Pizza - Pizza Papalis(Deep Dish - better than anything in Chicago) located in Greektown
2.)Best Mexican - Armando's, located at Vernor & Scotten(Detroit)
3.)Best Steak - Ruth's Chris(I'm sure your familiar) located in Troy on Big Beaver & I 75, but Alley Grille in the Greektown Casino is just as good
4.) Best Breakfast - Original Pancake House, locations in Southfield & Gross Pointe
5.) Best BBQ - Sweetwater Tavern in Downtown Detroit(Congress & Brush), a whole in the wall, but the wings & ribs are the best around
6.) Best Caribbean - Bahama Breeze, locations in Northville & Troy
7.) Best Italian - Andiamo's, multiple locations/ Giovanni's, located in Dearborn
8.) Best Mid-Eastern - La Shish, multiple locations
9.) Most Romantic - Insignia, located at the top of the Renaissance Center in Downtown Detroit(great views of the Detroit River and the city)/ Opus One,located on Larned & 75

My absolute all-time favorite restaurant in the metro-Detroit area is an Italian place called Marinelli's at 12 Mile Road and I-75... the pasta is delicious, comes in huge portions, and affordably priced. Try the Meat Lover's pasta, it's penne loaded with italian sausage, ham, and beef.

Good luck and congratulations on starting! It's possible to eat healthy in any restaurant. Stay away from the bread basket, in fact, tell the waitress/waiter not to bring it. Do not order soup, order a salad with a vinegarette dressing... Ask for vegatables or rice instead of potatoes. In Greektown, try Hellas. On the Eastside, the Harvard Grille is good, but be selective when ordering. Also Sajo's has good food. If you tell your waitress that you are on a diet, usually they will help you order. Good luck again...
