Federal authorities are expected to announce tough rules this week that would require employers to fire workers who use false Social Security numbers, according to The New York Times.
Officials said the rules will be backed up by raids across the country on workplaces that employ illegal immigrants.

I read an article yesterday that the punishment for employing illegals is a $10,000 fine. It wasn't clear if that was for each illegal immigrant they employ. If its just a one time fine I don't see it changing anything. It seems cheaper in the long run for an employer to pay the fine and continue to hire illegal immigrants for a fraction of what Americans work for.
I think the fine should be a set percentage of the employer's profits. That way small and big businesses are punished equally.
Even my small town newspaper had an article about the chief of police arresting an illegal for Drunk in Public and then sending him to ICE. I am not sure what is going on - I hate to get my hopes up.
