of course there are several firefighter classes you have to take.. ff1, ff2, and i am not sure of the others... as for medic, depending on your state, she would have to start with emt-b or emt-iv, and then work her way to medic... she will have to have a special driving class.. here is is vanessa k and evoc.. also you have to have a special license type.. here it is type f, basically a chaufers license... also, good upper body strength is a MUST!!!! a high school diploma or ged.. here you have to be 21 to drive an ambulance or firetruck.... she needs to have a good stomach and be prepared for stuff that smells worse than she thought anything could... (like the smell of vomit, alcohol, and feces, all inside the back of the truck.. all the way to the hospital... and then the smell doesnt come out after washing, or the smell of a body that has been dead for months (thank god i have never smelled that) she needs to be willing to help people.. she has to be able to be fully awake when the tones wake her up... she has to be able to deal with a child dying in her arms.. (thank god i have never had that happen to me) also, before she can take the medic classes, they make you retake the emt exam and give you a psychological test to make sure you can handle what it takes..
if you (or her) have any more questions feel free to email me..

Well, it depends on State requirements. In order to progress through the ranks to become a Paramedic (EMT-P) she will have to become an EMT-Basic, which only takes a couple of months to acquire. She would then attend classes to become an EMT-Intermediate, which again is based on training and education.

Getting to the EMT-P level is the most difficult step. Usually taking at least a year AFTER receiving an EMT-I certification, EMT-P students attend lectures, clinicals, and other education and training classes.

Check with a local Fire Department to see what your State's requirements are, though. I am familiar with California's requirements, but I know that they are not the same from State to State.
