Is it really true that older adults need less sleep than younger adults?

Or are they just more sleep-deprived and/or take more naps?

It's true. Adolescents and young adults (18-20) need about 9 hours of sleep per night. As you get older this decreases. However, in old age it becomes more difficult to lie in bed all night, so they tend to get less sleep at night and may nap during the day.
