Thumbs Down Over-use?

Is it me, or does there seem to be a gremlin running around giving thumbs down to a lot of answers? I can see TDing the anti's answers, blatently wrong answers, spam, dumb answers (ie. Desert Eagle for CCW), and the like.

But it seems pretty normal to click a question and find every answer with at least a thumbs-down - and I mean good, accurate answers too. Is it out of spite, or what?

I'm all for making thumbs-down raters public. If you "star" a question, your name appears, I think the same should be done for TD's, if even for only the answerer to view. If you have the guts to rate it, you should have the guts to put your name to it.

I know I've never been messaged with the disagreement over an answer that got a TD. This IS supposed to be answers, so if I'm wrong I want to learn something new.

It doesn't bother me personally, but the blatent abuse is annoying. There's no reason to TD everyone's answer in a question.

Wondering if anyone else agrees?

Be Safe.

Ran out of space...

I put this in hunting because I really have no use for the other sections, and I'm specifically referring to this section which I frequent. The "regulars" here seem to be a really good group of people.

The point I was making is, all the thumbs down on answers can confuse the asker if they're looking for a good answer. They may think "gee look at all the TD's" and wonder which is accurate - so it could play into which info someone chooses to accept.

Making raters public would allow someone to see if there are invdividual thumbs down, or if someone TD'd everyone's answer (ie. expose the troll). Would also allow individual TD's to compare the answers of the people that rated.

More than once I have looked at an answer and thought "that was perfect. I wish I had thought of that" only to see a few thumbs down. Frankly, I think alot of the tds are out of ignorance.

I also think some TDs are people trying to make their answers look better. Every answer has a TD except for one? Hmmm. We all know there is gaming going on and I think sometimes we get a little mad about it. It is sad because I think the voting and the thumbs could be a great way to parse out good info from bad.

I think some really good suggestions have been made here.

there you circulate H! they arrive from people like Worstans who in simple terms have not any strategies! lol so pay no interest. i for my section wish yahoo would do away with thumbs down and purely have thumbs up! it may well be a miles extra constructive place. Then people would could have an outstanding verbal arguement as to why they do in contrast to ones answer. it might deliver forth extra effective debate. interior the intervening time, that query became into very captivating, I regarded at each place that folk have been from, and it made it on extra of a private point. in no way strategies H, on the subject of the thumbs!

I am rather new to the Answers community. Been hanging around for about 3 weeks now. I stick to one of three main areas. Here Pets and Cars. These are where I know the most. I use the thumbs down for the same reasons as you guys do. I have had a few TD's for no reason at all. On answers that did not warrant it.

I usually give a thumbs down for answers that attempt to use very incorrect data, bad advice,or someone who is point grabbing. Other than that, thumbing down is stupid. It means nothing and looks stupid when done blatantly.

Update: I also do not give a TD over a honest opinion that has some merit even if I think that my answer is the better one. I think that people do TDs thinking that the author will be biased against the answer with the most TDs. Stupid tactic.

Udate II: OK, who gave me a TD. If I don't see three for TUs by this time tomorrow I'm TDing everyone. No prisoners.
