Check the school's mission statement. Every adult on board in your child's life should be pointing the way to the same finish lines. Goals should be set WITH the child, not for the child so he knows what he is working toward and can recognize milestones, achievements and road blocks.

Keep in constant contact with the schools teachers. Set up meetings, attend parent teacher conferences, e-mail teachers and anything to let them know your presence in your childs education. Communication and being on the same "page" is key.

The school has a set of goals for each child that it must adhere to. There's no way that you can interfere with teaching on an individual basis.
