justine henin definently deserves her number one ranking..... she has so much variety, power movment and style in her game.. she defies her size and beats the powerhouses of tennis...
Sharpova is not bad at all, yes she is the glam girl, yes she is all about endorsements and modeling.. but she is still pretty good at tennis, she has won wimbledon a slam justine is missing, but its all timing.. sharpova also won the US OPEN over a compromised justine.....
i think when justine is truly on top she is very hard to beat..the numbers prove it....
but justine is the better player, regardless of not winning wimbledon... if u have a 62 - 4 match rercord in one year.. that speaks itself!

Sharapova has never beaten a healthy Henin and Justine Henin is a far more talented player. Sharapova is young and she may grow into a #1 but she sure as hell isnt right now. Justine is at a much higher level than Sharapova is and that is good for tennis. If Sharapova can raise her level up to Justine or surpass it great, but just because she has all the sponsorship deals means nothing on the court. Agassi had all the deals when Sampras was #1 but that didnt mean he deserved to be #1.

Henin's got the wins in both turnaments and over Sharapova, but Sharapova at #1 would be better for tennis... Kind of a tough call. I'd go with Henin to keep as much integrity as the game has left.

You don't even have to ask this question. As much as I love Sharapova, Henin has clearly been the best player in the last 12 months, and her ranking points proves it. Last year she won 10 titles, including two grand slams, while Sharapova only won one title, and made it to only one grand slam final, losing badly to Serena. But it's a new year, and who knows how things will turn out at the end of this season. I think Sharapova will challenge Henin for the top spot again.

Justine Henin has a better all round game than Sharapova.
