I've been waiting for Nadal to take the crown but there are some very good players coming up the ranks. Kohlschreiber is displaying very good technique (similar to Federer?) and excellent point construction (similar to Federer?).
He beat Roddick despite Roddick's attempts to pull out all his tricks.
Who is your pick for the future #1?

You guys are better than my sports bar crowd.
Well, I thought people were going to say he can never be #1 because he's too small...
Your answers were definitely more entertaining.

holy crap the guy wins one good match against an overrated player and he's already in the chase for the number 1 spot.... i guess it's human nature...just to make things clear for ya there is absolutely no way he has any potential to become the no.1 player...well at least not in this era...probably if he was aaround when Roddick was no.1 lolz. Kholschreiber is like wat 26 or something... there is no way he willl have much of an impact during his career. I admit i saw flashes of Federer in him but if it was so Roddick definitely wouldn't have out aced him. There is no dout that Nadal is the next no.1 he jus have to wait until Roger is ready to give it up. what do you mean by "Roddick's attempts to pull out all his tricks" a fast serve isn't exactly a trick...you basically know its coming...Yea so basically I want Djokovic to be no.1 but i have no doubt Nadal will get there first. It will be a good rivalry when the time comes but for now it's all about Roger so any hopes you have for Kohlschreiber...you better forget bout it
Lets not get carried away. Kohlschreiber is a long way from being the #1 German tennis player, let alone the World #1. So he beat Roddick. Big deal! That feat is becoming easier and easier every wek.
There will be a new world #1 only after Federer retires, or he is injured for a couple of years. There is also no guarantee that todays contenders will be the automatic heirs to the Fedman's throne. Five years is a long time, and especially in tennis. There are many young players with great potential that we havent heard of yet. So please dont think that Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, etc ( I refuse to mention Kohlschreiber in the same breathe ) are automatic picks for #1 once the great man retires.
I'm a big Kohlscreiber booster, and have believed in his game for a long time. But it is far too premature to start talking about Philipp as being a threat for #1. Several years ago he was ranked in the 80s, then moved up to the 60s two year ago. Last year he hit his target, which was to make it into the top-30. He did that briefly, but finished the year at number 32. This year his goal was to make it to the top 20, and he will probably do that this year. Certainly at least the low 20s, where he probably will be any after the Aussie Open. But there is a tremendous amount of work left to be done if Philipp is even to get into the top 10, much less #1. He simply has too much ground to cover, although in the race standings, sure, he is already number 2.
I think that Kohlschreiber's talent level is strong enough to get him into the top 10, but it's anyone's guess if he can keep going up from there.
No way that ever happens. Roddick is not as good as the commentators make him out to be. Just because he got 32 aces doesn't make him a top ten player, it just further proves how pathetic a returner Roddick is. Roddick cant beat anyone from the baseline and needs his opponents to make errors for him to win.
Kohlschreiber is not even a top ten player in my book, you can look to Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Tsonga and Gasquet as more likely #1
I think Kohlschreiber played fantastic and so did Andy. I would say that this one of the tennis matches which is exiting to watch. Here you have Andy and there you have Kohlschreiber who is seed 29 and you expect Andy to win and I do believe that Kohlscreiber played super, but I do think that he had the luck on his side. And I don't think that he would be a big opponent for Federer... Federer's tecnic is far better and Andy was just unlucky...
