What is the origin of the intense gesture of bent-hand-to-face?
The Australian fans do it and players (most notably L. Hewitt) do it, too.

I always see it as "look what I just did" except in a very very strong and intense reaction.Doesn' Lleyton Hewitt call it the "viper"?
But yes it began with Lleytton Hewitt, and the Aussie fans are starting to use it as like this Australian celebration trademark.I think it's really cool. Janko Tipsarevic, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal, do it sometimes now.not as often as the fist pump but we see it more more now.

This gesture along with C'MON are Lleyton's trademarks so to speak, alot of the other players use them too now though
