long term pain in finger?

I have had a persistent pain in my middle finger on my left hand for months now. It started all of a sudden one morning. It feels like it's the tendons or something that hurt. It hurts when I move it, or apply pressure to the underside of my finger (palm side) along the lowest joint and up to the middle joint. Some days it isn't as bad, but some days I can barely use that finger for anything. There's no pain in any of the other fingers. If I sleep with my hands curled or clenched, it is incredibly stiff in the morning and hard to move without pretty moderate to high pain. I plan on going to the doctor in a few weeks and I'll ask them about it when I'm there next, I just thought I'd see if anyone else had suggestions in the meantime. I am 23 and work a desk job but have minimal typing (which makes me lean away from carpal tunnel). Thanks, and i always pick a best answer!

I have just had my 12th surgery on my arms, including CTR (carpal tunnel release). In my experience, finger pain was one of the signs of CT. The pain was actually caused from nerve damage and the nerve being compressed. The treatment I used until surgery, (I am not suggesting that you will require surgery), was a little time consuming, but helpful. Use heat, preferably moist heat, i.e. heating pad with moist towel, for about 10 minutes. After the heat, massage and stretch the finger gently. Then, ice for 10 minutes.

I, also, suggest using a CT brace at night for your hands. It sounds as if you, like me, curl your fists (flexion) during the night. This can aggravate the wrist and fingers. A brace will prevent the motion.

I hope this helps.

Get a hand brace at your local pharmacy and put it on that hand.... that will keep your hand and wrist straight ..... sleep with it, and see if it helps.

If you sleep with your hand curled and clenched...being the longest finger it might not have much room in your hand.

See doctor also it is always best

When getting up in the Morning run some hot water on your hand . You need to see a doctor.
