Career Ideas Anyone??? New Job Opportunities???

Currently I am an independent sales contractor for Time Warner Cable. I love my freedom but these hiiiiiiiiiigh gas prices are eating me alive. I am spending over $500/month in gas. I don't like desk jobs. I am not into heavy labor or factory work. I don't want another commission only job. And GOD knows no more network marketing scams or work from home scams. No call center job either. Any ideas of how to find a job with a base salary that would still allow me to have some freedom and not sit at a desk or be on the phone all day or be under your boss all day?

well I had similar problem, except I live in a small community and the larger cities are over 50 miles in any one direction.
I tried the on-line thing, e-bay, google, others, also found a few scams, but some home based business opportunties are real, I recently opened my own business.
I reaserched the area to find out what kinds of services where not offered, or had very few of. Than I began to research business license, permits and all that neat stuff. I eneded up opening a janitor company, I have two employees and we clean 6 buildings currently, I admit I am not making a fortune yet, but my hours are Mon to Fri weekend and holidays off, I had to get my own health insurance but I found a company that has that also not only for me but my two employees, currently I hoping to sign a contract for some more buildings and adding even more employees, I have gotten so busy my wife and I are considering buying a shop building in town, vans and other equipment so we can expand the business.
So my advice is that if you can't find a job create one for yourself!
but here some other ideas: Real Estate, Stock Broker, Investment Broker, Insurance Sales, Retail or fast food positions ( management), health care related fields.
Well good luck let me know if my advice hepled!

What's up my brother....

I feel you on NOT wanting to do a desk job...I worked at a large Fortune 500 company at a desk job for 6 years, then went on to Pharmaceutical Sales and never, EVER would go back to a desk job (I hate the office politics, he said/she said BS, sitting in a cubicle like Dilbert type job).

I can strongly recommend Pharmaceutical or Medical Sales as a viable option, especially since most offer either a company car (with a gas card provided and all maintenance paid for by the company) or a car allowance, where they give you $500-$800 per month, you can use your existing car or buy/lease your own (get a $250-$300/month car note + insurance and pocket the rest of the $$).

I'm looking for a new position myself and am avoiding ANY AND ALL positions that DON'T offer company car or car allowance!!

Good Luck in your search!

BTW....You can get into Pharma/Medical sales coming from ANY sales background..and NOT entry-level either as an established sales rep in another industry!!
