My boss is being inappropiate with my pay, please advise me.?

This has happened before. I get paid on the last friday of every month, and once, he did not pay me until saturday 4pm, knowing full well that I was waiting to get paid, I had errands to run, but he held onto the money trying to get as much interest on it as possible. Now it has happened again. I asked politely if there was anyway I could be paid before 5pm (yesterday) and he said it wasn't possible but it would be done at around 5pm-ish anyway. It was 7pm by the time I checked my account and he hadn't paid me yet, so I sent him a message and he hasn't replied. It's now 7:30 am saturday morning and I still have not been paid! This has totally ruined my weekend, I had plans but I've had to cancel them all due to the no money thing, I hardly got any food in my house either, I need to go food shopping the most. Thing is, I've been advised to call him at 8am, and just ask when will i be paid, and I want to, but I feel awkward doing it, it's making me feel like a bad person. what do I do?

Thanks for your advice guys, I rang him, and he actually picked up (shock horror) and he would not stop apologizing and made excuses. Woohoo my weekend is okay now, thanks for taking the time out to help me, wish I could make you all best answer!

What industry are you in that you only get paid once a month? Most jobs, the minimum is twice a month.

Anyway, payday is supposed to be payday. There are laws about that. Your boss may not be trying to maximize interest earnings--he may not have the money.

Late paychecks can be a sign of a financially unstable company.  How sure are you that the company is solvent? Might be time to look for another job.

I don't know under what circumstances this is acceptable.  You have worked, you should be paid, and you should be able to expect your pay on time.  Is your boss in a bad financial situation where your pay check could bounce?  You should not lose interest (nor should your employer gain interest) as long as the transaction is made that day before the close of business.  If you are supposed to be paid on the last Friday of the month, you should be paid on that Friday, period.  

You have been far too nice with this boss & have been taken advantage of.  You should simply tell your boss, "I need to be paid on the last Friday of the month before the close of business.  I need to fulfill my financial obligations, and I rely on having that money at this time, which was our agreement."

You are not a bad person for wanting to be paid on time!  It's only fair!

Depending onyour job, you should look into joining a union... It provides an easy way to get things that you want, like getting paid on time etc. 

Also, just confront your boss politely and tell him your situation, most bosses are understanding and should realise the importance of the matter.

Contact your local unemployment office and find out if this is against labor laws. You may be able to file a complaint against the company. Also call a lawyer to find out your rights as a worker.
