Is it Okay to Tell New Job's Boss that You Are Still Looking for Higher Pay Job?

Is it Okay to Tell New Job's Boss that You Are Still Looking for Higher Pay Job?

Maybe they will see your worth and raise your pay, or fire you on the spot?

Anyone ever do this?

Update:

I ask this because when a job offers you only $8/h, the only job you can get, which is far less than rent, bills, etc allow, then you need a second or third job. Then, they start interfering with one another.

I only had one job for fifteen years until lay off. On bare minimum for expense and such (no cells, cable, etc) but still need $4000 a month. $8/h the only place that would hire me in 16 months, is all I could get. Too overqualified for many jobs (oh, he will ask for more money so let us not hire them). Even fast food places would not take thee. Need a lot more than 8.

This is where the question comes from.

NO NO NO!!!!!!! Find a higher paying Job and tell them that you must give two weeks notice then, Go ask your boss for a raise greater than the new job you have been offered. If he doesn't give you the raise give notice. If he does call the other company and tell them that when you gave notice your boss gave you a raise and see if they will counter with another offer. :D

Businesses no longer feel any loyalty to employees you should consider yourself self employed even though you are working for someone. its fine to look for a better deal, but if you tell your boss you are looking for a better deal, he will just hire someone to replace you, and make an example of you to the other employees. So keep your mouth shut and make sure you have the advantage its like playing chess with your life.

Yeah, it's a great idea if you wanna commit career suicide. Why would you say that to them?

    As per your additional details:

Since you are earning 'some' money now, don't create waves and risk being fired. Just use this time to try and find something that pays better.

If you're overqualified, try dumbing down you resume a little. Yeah maybe "he''ll ask for more money" or "maybe he'll get bored and leave within 2 months so we'll have to go through the interview process again".

Dumb down your resume a little and tailor it to each job you apply for.

No it is not okay to inform your boss that you are still looking for higher pay. Everyone wants more money for their labor. Get more training by correspondence or through the internet. Also you could get another part time job. You could ask your boss what someone has to do to get a raise or to get promoted. In the meantime do your job the best you can that way you get a good reptutation.

Very bad idea! If you want more money, then work hard and show them you deserve it during the raise process. Chances are they will not fire you on the spot as they need a justified reason to terminate (if they do not want a lawsuit), however they can make your time there, no fun!

Definitely a terrible idea...by staying at 1 job longer, you have more opportunities to grow and get promoted.

easy come, easy go. if you can not assume that your current job will provide you with advancement, theres no need to tell them that you need or expect more money. just keep chugging along making the paycheck that you can, and when something better comes along, tell them your relationship is over.

if he doesn't respect you enough to pay you more than 8/hour, then you don't need to respect him enough to say that you are looking.
