I am so swift. I somehow managed to fumble the cap of my roll-on deodorant right after I had flushed the toilet. It went in and disappeared in a split second. The toilet flushes fine now. Does that mean it got through ok, or is it going to cause a backup further down the line? I am on city water. .

I would like to hear from someone who has fixed their own toilet more than once.

Hi. The drain on a toilet is the bottleneck (pun intended). Anything that passes through that should reach the end of the pipe.
You need to check toilet by flushing large amounts of toilet paper.Coil paper around your hand 6 times.Make a ball or wad.If it is a newer water saving 1.6 gallon per flush toilet use 3 wads.If it is an older 3.5 gallon per flush use 4 or 5 wads.If toilet paper goes through, the toilet should be clear. If it doesn't then the object is still in the toilet.A toilet auger will need to be ran through toilet.Possibly the toilet will need to be unhooked and turned upside down.If the object has passed through the toilet it should go through rest of plumbing system. The waste pipes get larger as they connect with the rest of the drains. If the rest of the pipes are in good shape and there are no restrictions(Roots,Broken pipes,Etc.) you should not have any problems.A TV camera can be sent in line if you really want to know if the lines are clear.
