We are having a 4th of July party and after everyone eats and we let off fireworks we usually play some type of game. I am very interested in a murder mystery game, but we've never actually done one before. Anyone with any experience or tips they want to share? I'm looking at buying one of the printable games off ebay--phantom cruise I think is the name of the game. Any info, input, or advice is welcome!

generally speaking, there have to be at least 4 or 5 people who know their characters (and the plot) before anyone else comes...that's if you want to do the kind where it's more of a play and the guests have to figure out whodunit
if you're doing the type where each guest is a character and they don't know who did it (which is usually better with less than a dozen people) and there is one detective, usually the guests need to know their character (and backstory) a day or so ahead of time so they can remember who they're supposed to be
either way, i hope you have a good time and that things work out for the best!
Clue is fun, but what might be more fun is doing a live action version of clue. Have someone play the victim and give everyone clues and stuff to find out who dun it.
