I have questions about MRSA?

I had what I thought to be a spider bite last week, but it got really big and swollen. I went to the doctor and he said it looked like staph, put me on an antibiotic (sulfamethoxzl) and told me to use heating pad to bring pus to surface and it would drain. It's draining now and looks disgusting. I went back a few days ago and asked for it be cultured because I knew it wasn't just a spider bite and then today found out it was MRSA. I'm freaking out, because I have a 3 year old and a 5 month old. I'm keeping it covered, and washing hands frequently. The doctor just had someone call me and say to just continue the antibiotics. If I hadn't researched it I would have though it was no big deal by the way they are acting. Has anyone had experience with this? What happened? Were you able to keep others from getting it? I'm really scared. I've read about people dying from this if it enters bloodstream.

you are doing the correct thing by keeping it covered and wash your hands frequently..children are at greater risk from MRSA because of their immature immune systems and the drugs used to treat it are very strong and can sometimes themselves be toxic. you however are unlikely to become ill. most people do not. those who die usually have underlying illnesses or weakened immune systems. You should just be careful, but do not become overly afraid, MRSA exists all over the place, it a staph bacteria that has just become immune to the weaker antibiotics. It is possible to keep others from getting it from your wound.

I think you can relax, You have a normal strong immune system right. I have had staph and mrsa before and yes it was painful, and disgusting and left scars but it was isolated on the derma and not blood born. You sound like you are taking good hygiene to keep it at bay. You can always check out webmd.com for more info on this, Relax and good luck

my friend had MRSA and she went to the hopital, they numbed it, and cut it out. She still has the virus but she has to stay really clean and whenever she gets a cut she has to cover it up. PLease go to the hospital and have it removed.
