Are male nurses respected?

personally, i'd love to be a nurse, and for a few different reasons. unwilling to go through medical school and become a doctor, i love helping the needy (in this case, the ill), and the pay isnt bad. but i also love respect. Nursing isnt exactly the manliest of all careers, are male nurses even respected? i respect them, but im not sure that i should give the majority of people credit for intelligence. Im currently a nursing student, and i wont diverse from my path, but im just wondering about what i should expect when i get out there.

I work in a nursing home. The RN is the supervisor. My supervisor is a man. He is the greatest asset to my nursing home. He commands respect and he get it. From me openly. From everyone else. Reluctantly. Go to school and become a nurse. It is a rewarding career and the money isn't bad.

Yes, of course they are accepted - especially in this day and age. I know a handful of male nurses and they are happy and proud of their job. Being a male nurse might actually work for your advantage in the hiring process.
