And do the Air Force One charges differ when it is just sitting on the tarmac ready to leave?
I have also heard a Cargo plane follows Air Force one on almost if not all trips.

Interesting how a "Green" President has to fly all over the country to have backdrops to show off how much money he is taking from the taxpayers.

I've got an idea!! Instead of flying to the cities to tell the people what they already know, just send them a check for the costs of flying himself and the cargo plane with his limo. I think that would help those "poor" cities better then "were going to get you help" that 500K would have helped them better. Sometimes marine one even makes the trip
you should watch the documentary on the history channel it explains everything about what your asking and why its done....
The POTUS, represents all Americans, soo it is crucial that he be secured at all costs without expense. By the president visiting that state, he brought jobs, think about all the prep work, that went into the area, air port that he went to. I would guess that his one visit put, at least 200 americans to work for at least 2 weeks or more.
I am not sure the total amount it cost but it is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. My company at one time had a small Lear 35A jet for use and it cost us $6,000 just to spool up the engines and taxi, so that ought to give you some idea. Yeah a green president, thats a laugh, thanks!
I've read that the cost for AirForce One is $68,000/hour
With the cost of fuel going down, it may be less... here is a site that goes into a little more detail... http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/05/air_force_one_68000_an_hour.html
