The gun is no longer made. I bought my SS Colt Officer's model 15 years ago for $400. Auctions below indicate a value of about $900. I'm keeping mine NIB as the value may continue to climb.

That's a pretty decent price for a Colt, Series 80. But, if you have $600 to spend, I'd look at a Taurus 1911. It comes with a nice load of custom features and it would run you about $600. They are nice guns, well finished, dependable, and accurate. Even comes with a lifetime warranty. Hard to beat deal.

I dont know if it's rare enough for the velvet lined glass case... Most of the series 80 Colts are still considered good working guns. That stanless OM brings about $600-800 used in many parts of the country.
Now if you have a factory Class A engraved example......

That is a fairly new gun yet even in oldest model since they came out in 1985....... unless its a special edition or engraved one its just another Colt 1911 worth over 500.00 if in good condition.

Nope not at all
Leave it unfired and it might be in another 20 years or so
There are too many out there to be considered collectible any more than any other Colt
