Colt 1911 Series 80 Price?

I went to a local Gun store today and the colt 1911 series 80 caught my eye. The price tag for this *brand new* was 749. I'm not really sure about what the average colt price for this gun is, but a new colt 1911 for 749 seems like a steal. Would I be crazy not to buy this or is this actually just an average price and not a great deal? Also is the series 70 more valuable/better than the 80? Should i hold out and get a different colt 1911? Opinions please!

Thanks

$749. is a very good price for a new Colt, even the "M1991" model. Hopefully it is the "New Rollmark" version?

The Series 70 lacks a firing pin block, should have a slightly cleaner trigger pull than a Series 80. There are also a few small details changes on the Series 70 like an arched mainspring housing It's priced a bit higher than the entry level M1991.

If I wanted a Colt and saw a M1991/New Rollmark for $749., I'd be all over it. I bought a M1991, new, in 2003? It was $620. which was a very good price for that day & age. Unfortunately, it had the old and ugly rollmark.

That's a pretty decent price for a Colt, Series 80. But, if you have $600 to spend, I'd look at a Taurus 1911. It comes with a nice load of custom features and it would run you about $600. They are nice guns, well finished, dependable, and accurate. Even comes with a lifetime warranty. Hard to beat deal.

Forget about it.* Any Good Used Government Model 1911 will shoot the same bullet groups that you can cover with the palm of your hand as the Colt Brand 1911 as long as you do your part.* Smart Buyers buy all their Guns in Good Used Condition.* A new gun does not shoot any better, or last any longer than a Good Used One no matter how much $$$$$ you spend on it.* Buy Used and Save yourself a lot of $$$$.*

Not a steal, but personally I would grab it up. But that's just me, I'm a sucker for Colt 1911's.

I have seen them in LIKE NEW condition going for around $1,000.00. Being a 1960's era Army Military Policeman, the 1911 is my handgun of choose.

Not very long ago I paid eleven hundred for a series 80 with trijion nite sights. At 749 it sounds like a mid-winter sale price.

That's about $200 less than I would have said.

That's a very fair retail price.
