I copy a MS Access file. The size of the file was 300mb. I would then import a new table and once making sure that evrything is ok, I would delete the old table. I was shocked when I saw the file size goes to 1gb. The new table & old table have the same no of columns with relatively the same no of rows. Other objects like query remains unchanged.
Why my file size goes more than double? what should I do?

When you delete a record (or any other element for that matter) from MS Access, the space that was taken up is not released for reuse by the database automatically. To rectify this problem, you should periodically compact your database. MS Access has a built in utility to do this called "compact and repair".
To compact and repair your db in Access 2003 or earlier, go to Tools>Database Utilities>Compact and Repair Database.
For Access 2007, click on the Office button>Manage>Compact and Repair Database.
If this is an old database, i recommend making a back up of it before running compact and repair.
