How do I reduce the Powerpoint file size?
Hi
I have a 35 slide powerpoint file and 3 of the slides have bitmap images copied from a web page on them. How is it possible to reduce the file size from 20Mb to a smaller size for email?
Thanks
Sam

First thing - you may not really have that large of a file, you might just have Fast Saves turned on. Before you compress photos, do a Save As with your presentation and rename it. If Fast Saves is on, just doing the Save As may reduce your file size significantly.
If the resave didn't shrink the file size, your best bet is to size them down in an image editing program and reinsert them, but PowerPoint also has an image compression option...
I assume you are using PowerPoint XP/2003 since PowerPoint 2007's default is to automatically compress pictures (bad idea). So, select one of the pictures, right click on it and select Format Picture.
On the Picture tab, click the button that says Compress. Click All Pictures in Document, click Web/Screen, click both other options and hit OK. 95% of the time it works.

Unless it is needed to be kept as a Powerpoint file, converting to pdf will dramatically reduce the size and each slide will still remain as a separate page but of course you will lose any animations.

You could use this PPT2Flash converter http://www.sameshow.com/powerpoint-to-flash.html
After the conversion, the file size would be sharply reduced. I have once reduced a 41 MB file to 1.1 MB. Hope you could make it.

Yowza - that's a bigga file.
Import the file into Excel, reduce the size within the app, then copy the reduced image into Paint. Save as jpeg. You'll reduce it considerably, and given that it is for e-mail, the lower resolution won't matter in terms of it's view.
