Clutch question on a 1996 Nissan pickup?

My 2WD Nissan pickup has developed a low moaning noise when the clutch pedal is depressed. At 106,000 miles my guess is that it's the throwout bearing. I assume that you have to drop the transmission to get to the throwout bearing which means I may as well replace the clutch. Any comments/insight from people with experience with this problem?

JP- Thanks...that's what I'm looking for. What should I expect to pay for this at the dealer and is it worth paying the premium to have a dealer do the work vs. an independent shop?

The new truck idea has crossed my mind. I just put a new starter in the Silver Slug and wonder if this is the beginning of a downward spiral. On the plus side, it's lead a pampered life, is in great shape, and doesn't cost much for registration, insurance and annual property tax.

Dealer wanted about $1750, bur wasn't sure if they could get Nissan parts to do the job. I found a highly recommended shop that does a lot of work on state police cruisers...works for me.

Most likely it is the throw out bearing. But be sure to do it all while you in there. Besides the clutch disk, Pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bushing and resurfacing the flywheel. You may also want a new transmission mount any torn motor mounts changed and gear oil change. That trans uses GL-4 gear oil also the rubber shifter boot on top of the gear box will be torn and cracked. The alternative is a new truck payment

Not a mechanic, not familiar with that truck but, If you don't have any immediate plans to get rid of the truck ... I would say get everything replaced that has a good chance of failure while everything is open.
