If you want to go for a "smarter" or better sounding topic sentence, use a thesis (fancy name for topic sentence)
They way i learned to write a thesis has some rules:
hook your reader (make your roles sound interesting)
list the topics you will talk about (your roles)
include your opinion (joy/struggles of your roles)
end by bringing them all together (intro your paper)
