How does one know if s/he has a distorted body image?

Many of those who have a distorted body image see themselves as big, when they aren't. How do you know if you really are how you see yourself? It's difficult asking others because many times they want to be polite, or don't see it as a big deal.

The problem is that people don't realize that they have a distorted body image. Below is a good illustration of distorted body image disorder though. For a genuine opinion of your body and whether you need to lose weight is your general practitioner. Go to the doctor and ask if you're overweight for your height / age. If you think you're way overweight, and they say you're fine, you may have a problem with distorted body image.

If your body image is distorted enough to be a disorder, people will tell you for sure. People realize something is wrong if you are thin or normal weight and are constantly complaining seriously about it and dieting and trying to hide your body.

Everyone complains about their body sometimes, and everyone sees flaws in themselves that other people don't. But when it gets to the extent of a disorder, people start to realize based on your actions and words that you really believe something completely far from the truth and they will tell you.
