In Spanish we have learned stuff like "el me lo dio" and other ways to substitute objects with the word 'lo'. We have also learned to say "el se las compro" and other stuff like that.
So my question is, when do i use 'se', and when do i use 'lo/la'?

lo/la is when your talking about something in the singular. like "el me lo dio" is 'he gave it to me' you are referring it to 'it' in the singular. without saying what 'it' is. basically in place of the object. if you mention the object like 'el me dio el dinero' you take out 'lo/la' and and ad the object after the verb.
(there are a few more ways you can use lo/la but this is the explanation in this context)
'Se' is not interchanged with lo/la. it is not referring to 'it'.

Use whenever it is applicable. (I wiggled out of that one)!! Seriously I am Italian, spoke Italian all my life w/family and I even took it one year in school. To this day I have no clue what the proper usage of lo/se. Ask your teacher/look it up online/or simply ask one of your friends who is Spanish!!
