I wear glasses, never had contact lenses. I received an offer for Acuvue disposable contact lenses in the mail from the place where I did my glasses three years ago and I am thinking about it. From the little bit of research I did so far, I understand that you are supposed to take the lenses out at night - what happens if you want to take a nap during the day, say one hour nap, do you have to remove them and then put them back? Or you don't sleep one night, like go party or stay awake working on something for 36 hours, is it OK to keep them on?
What is best and why? Daily disposable, every two weeks disposable, one month disposable? Thanks!

It depends on the lenses you choose to use, and none are "best" it's just what suits you.
Your optician will explain EVERYTHING to you, so you need not bother reading this xD
Daily disposables - I have them. I use 1-day Acuvue moist, they are the best brand, I tried another and they dried out really fast.
If they fall out you can't put them back in, but my friends do it. I tried it but it stuck to itself too fast. They don't fall out usually, I was tugging my eye.
You CANNOT sleep in these. This is no problem for me, I don't nap, I shouldn't think half an hour napping would hurt but if you sleep in these for a long time they dry up and stick to your eyelid.
Don't get them wet because they appear to dry up and fall out, or stick to your eye, BUT I went swimming today and have showered with them loads of times; they were fine.
Good points - you just chuck them in in the morning and then bin them at night, no fuss. Bad points - Expensive, mine are roughly £32-34 a month If you can afford them I seriously recommend them.
Those are soft contacts, some opticians still do hard contacts, my mother has these. You have to store them in solution when you're not using them, and buy this solution constantly, and a container when the old one is manky. They seem to fall out easily and they are your only pair. They're cheap, buy them once and you won't need another pair for a long time, my mother has had hers for 20 odd years... You can leave them in to nap for hours on end. I should know. My mother sleeps. A LOT.
The main difference is that hard contacts are semi-permeable, meaning they let oxygen through, and your eyes need oxygen. That's why you can leave them in for ages and your eyes stay healthy. Soft contacts are recommended to be taken out an hour before sleep, otherwise your eyes can't breathe and they look ugly and unhealthy.
Hope this helped. Not too sure on other contact types, sorry for the spammage =D
I have had contacts for about two years. I love them and hate them. But I definitely prefer them over glasses because you cant really lose them and they aren't hard to maintain or anything. (and people don't even know your vision isn't 100%)
Yes you can take naps with them on. It doesn't really matter. I do it all the time. They can get dry if you do this but you can always just put re-wetting drops in your eyes. I usually don't have to. I take mine out every night if I remember. I forget sometimes and it isn't a big deal. I just take them out in the morning, re-wet them, then put them back in. It isn't good to do this because they just get really uncomfortable and dry. I don't think it really hurts your eyes though.
I have monthly disposables and they work pretty well. However, if you lose one or tear it (doesn't happen very often) then you have to get a whole new lense so you just lost a whole month cost on a contact(s) I have used daily disposables and they were great, except I think they cost more and I know the quality isn't as great because you throw them away every night.
As for brand, ask your eye doctor what would be good for you. I have had the same brand from my eye doctor the whole time and they have been great.
Have been wearing contacts for 20 years,,,,,,,Was in EMS so I HAD TO be able see at 2 mins notice in middle of the night . I use extended wear SOFT lenses and don't have ANY problem with 2 week + use.... My Doc snarles at me but says my eyes are still OK even though I don't take out / change on regular schedule ( & I am 50 years old!) Good Luck...... The new lenses are tremendous!
Ya you would be perfectly fine if you accidentally sleep with them or don't take them out for 36 hours. However once you wake up they will be slightly blurry but after about 2 minutes they will re-adjust and you can see fine again. I know this because i personally do not like having to put contacts in when i wake up so i, and many other people i know, leave them in for the full two weeks with no problems
i wear 2 week lenses, ur supposed to take them out at night, i leave them in when i take naps tho, and i've kept them in for 48 hours straight with no sleep, and i've kept them in while sleeping everynight for almost a week, but again ur not supposed to do any of that but mine were fine, they'll get dry but i always kept contact solution with me, i would recommend the 1 month ones u dont have to take out, everything else is just a pain
